Tales of Arise

Just finished season 2 of The Witcher so I’ll probably give The Witcher 3 my 3rd play through

Hades

Just got to the third level for the first time after about 14 attempts. But things really didnt start to click for me until my last few escape attempts. I am doing this spoiler free without any research on best builds/boons, so I am just now getting to the point where I can differentiate between all of the god boons and determine which ones are best for my playstyle.

Hades was a good time. I finally cleared a run and got to the more advanced phase of the game but haven't been able to do it again.

Hades, I started it a few weeks back but the first “boss” discouraged me after whipping my arse. In your opinion, what’s the best weapon / boons for a newb at these types of games?

- Ghost of Tsushima - great game but I don't have enough time to play it much
- Warzone - Friends play it so I have started joining them occasionally in the last couple weeks

I'm no expert myself as I'm only about 14 runs in and have only made it to level 3 so far, but I think it really depends on your play style. I personally do best with the Spear. Your special attack with the Spear throws it at the enemy, so any boon that powers up that special attack gives you a pretty damn great long range attack so that you don't have to sit in the pocket with groups of enemies. Combine that with athena's boons to both regular attack and dash that deflects opponents attacks back to them plus the cast boon (the red gem that you throw) that creates the AoE cloud damage for anyone caught in the blast (or moving through it) basically covers all of the bases.

I think the shield can probably be boosted similarly.

Collecting darkness to access your mirror abilities is probably just as important for early game runs as boons. One of the mirror abilities gives you an extra life. Then you can gift a certain character nectar early on and they'll gift you back an extra life that can be equipped and stacks with the mirror ability. So by maybe your 5th or 6th run you can start out with 3 lives instead of 1 while you learn the ins & outs of boons and weapons while gaining darkness & keys.

As a beginner myself, that's about the best advice that I can give. That's how I've gotten the furthest in my runs so far.

Thanks for the info man! I’m going to jump back into it once I’m finished with Tales of Arise. I’m trying to broaden my horizon with different genres these days. The only games I have experience with that are similar to Hades are the Marvel games.

Is The Witcher 2 worth playing before I play 3 or should I just dive into 3? All of these games have been sitting in my library for years. I have 3.1 hours on Witcher 1 per Steam but I remember it sucking arse (combat wise) and just read the plot on Wikipedia to prepare for 2.

Been playing Nioh 1. I honestly kinda hate the game, but I also want to complete it because I'm a stubborn arse.

I tried to start The Witcher 2 but got stuck on the parrying part of the tutorial. The icon to parry never appears on the guy's body after the initial time I miss. I read to keep attacking him to build the 'focus' back up, but it frustrated me, and I quit the game. This is how old I am now.

Back in the day I was a big Witcher 1 fan so I of course bought Witcher 2 as soon as it came out. Needless to say the combat was completely different than the 1st and it was disappointing to me. I think I am the only person in the world that liked Witcher 1 combat. I did pretty much the same thing as you but I got past tutorial but just couldn't get into past the first few quests and quit. I of course played Witcher 3 and loved it. Then not long ago I committed to a restart of all 3 with carrying over the saves. I got pissed off at the tutorial again but powered through it and questioned what I was doing. Then I started playing and everything just clicked, combat felt natural. I don't know what the heck I was thinking back then. The Witcher 2 is a damn masterpiece too. Not on level of 3 but it is one hell of a game. I'd encourage you to just skip the tutorial and play if possible. Don't even try to learn anything from the tutorial.

Witcher 2 has Amazing story and deep combat but it has the single worst tutorial and first impression of how the game plays I’ve ever seen. Go direct to Witcher 3 then relay it

I also temporarily quit the Witcher 2 after that tutorial

I just started playing Witcher 3. I had to do a recap of 2 because I forgot a lot of what happened.

Witcher theee does the best job of any game I’ve ever seen going about the task of crating the third in a trilogy first timers will LOVE. Witcher 2 is an aAmazing game. But has massive problems the combat systems; 1.5 hour tutorial you just have to go through as rite of passage, and the horrid menus

Been playing the Halo Infinite campaign, and damn.. either this game isn't greatly optimized or it's really showing how old my computer is (probably a combo of both as it was built in January 2019 for reference and I'm running an RTX 2070 with an i5-9600K).

I am playing on mostly Low settings at 2K resolution with a 103 FOV (I believe only Texture Filtering, Geometric whatever, some other Texture option, and Decals are on Medium settings).

My frames typically stay between 60-70 and sometimes hit up to 80, but the drops to 52-55 really suck sometimes.

No issues at all in the MP and when I finish the campaign I am going to revert my settings back to default as I'm pretty sure most were set to Medium with no issues.

Currently about half way through my first playthrough of Ghost of Tsushima, and I'm loving it. It's a little repetitive at times, but the story is fantastic.
