This could be a good reference for this
This may have some good ideas, especially for the CPU.

yeh, that mobo can do up to 32GB of RAM? who the frick would need 32GB of RAM?
Also, my 600Watt Power Supply going to be enough to power the mobo, CPU, and my 650ti?

is the MicroCenter guy right about my OS load not working on the new CPU and Mobo tho? I understand different chipset. i just wouldn't think that would matter all that much.
i have very little backed up. i would have to get a new drive rather than overwrite what i've got.

It depends on what version of windows was installed. Do you happen to know if it is the full version or the builder version?

A fresh install would be ideal. Do you have your disk?

I switched motherboards from a Z77 Extreme4 to Z77 Extreme6 and mine didn't work. Then I swapped from i5-3570k to i7-3770k and it didn't. I've heard of people doing it before but I've never had that luck.

I read on the Titans some more. 300% more in price for only a 30% performance bump above a 690?

frick. no way i go from a core 2 duo to a i5 then.
which means i could be double fricked.
- OME version of Windows 7 64bit Ultimate
- Plus buying a new HD for OS.

yeh i get that. i can just grab a 60-80 HDD to install Windows 7 on.
.... but doesn't "OME" limit me from installing that copy of the OS onto another computer. even tho is kinda the same computer?

Any new MOBO and CPU you get you should do a clean Windows install, KK.
I just did it a few weeks ago when I upgraded both.
You can find a 120GB SSD for under $100 and you will not regret it. Try for a Vertex 3 or 4.
ETA: That case wasn't on sale anymore.

$40 and best price/looks combo for what i was going for. it caught my eye when you first posted it.
i don't my case to look like the terminator or anything. just something simple. and i already have blue LED's. so blue made sense.
i know. i'm just being a cheapskate right now.
i just wanted to buy a new piece every month and slowly upgrade.
now look what i've gotten myself into:
- 650ti + miniHDMI to HDMI cable = $175
- new case + shipping = $50
- new mobo = $100
- new cpu = $149
- 3-4 hours of my time de-assembling and trips to MicroCenter
in a month just to get it running again, $474 + time
