Representing or misrepresenting a political ideology is one thing. I mean, let's be real here, every post-apocalyptic game misrepresents capitalism as the cause of all the world's harms when the reality is that government intervention into capitalism is what creates dystopian results. I'm currently playing Cyberpunk, and it is a great example of this.

That is not the same as specifically mentioning an actual political group and supporting them.

And if this were a completely different game universe, I might be inclined to agree. But this is a game with a young mixed race (half black, half hispanic) protagonist born in Brooklyn living in present day Harlem.

If we took a poll of young black kids in Harlem right now, how many do you think would have a favorable opinion of that mural being in their real life neighborhood? Does anyone actually think the favorable rating wouldn't be above 50%, and likely significantly above?

If someone isn't comfortable climbing into the shoes of that character, that's perfectly fine. But being upset that an utterly reasonable characterization conflicts with their personal political beliefs? That just strikes me as absurd.

Now, for the record, I do absolutely think that in game mural is pandering. And I would take no issue with people having that particular debate. But crying about it being an inappropriate injection of politics into a game? I'm just not buying that this is anything other than OP not wanting to be confronted with politics he doesn't agree with, which he's all but acknowledged in subsequent posts.

You're getting mad at someone for being frustrated with an obviously shoe horned in virtue signal reference. Yep, it's really them who's soft.

I hated that scene in particular, but what would one expect from a tokenized spider man?

Eric July has it correct about tokenization. Hollywood/entertainment media do not know how to create compelling black/diverse characters so they race swap or introduce lgbt traits to pre-existing characters. Cheap, lazy, but apparently profitable.

Did you watch into the spidey-verse? I thought it was cool. and there have been so many different spider-men that i'm fine with 1 being black.

a letter that says they're "happy to have a Spiderman who looks like us to protect us" or some other pandering nonsense like that because apparently Peter Parker only fought crimes in white neighborhoods and his legacy should be spit on, and even a BLM-inspired outfit that looks pretty cool but I'd never ever use because of the context. These are pretty game-ruining things for me.

it just said happy to have spider-man as an ally

Sure. As the target audience for this game, I couldn't care less about this. I don't have a PS5 so I wasn't getting the game anyway, but now I won't buy it even if it eventually comes to XBox.

Okay. Same basic premise. "Ally" has a very specific meaning to BLM. I'd actually say the use of that specific word is more alarming than if they had said exactly what I said.

I'm not having a political debate on the gaming board. You jackasses have already infiltrated the OT enough. If you want my input on a political issue, start a thread there. Or if you want your arse patted, start it on the PT.

Then by all means, if it's such a passionate topic, please tell me what you, or OP, are doing about the political statement in-game other than being mad and posting angry messages on TD gaming board?

Pissing and moaning here does absolutely nothing for the game or for future games.

justify clutching their pearls over a BLM in-game mural.

Because it's an overt political statement attempting to normalize support for a group which promotes racial divisiveness through supporting things like "restorative justice" and "critical race theory".

If you're fine with supporting the teaching of black kids that they will always be victims just because of the color of their skin and white kids being taught they will always be oppressors just because of the color of their skin, then the problem isn't with the "pearl-clutchers".

I was just upset that I didn’t get to torch an auto zone. I guess there is still time for a summer of love dlc.

I don’t believe I’ve ever been asked this question, so I can’t fathom how I’ve skirted around it. But again, I’m not talking politics on this board. Feel free to start a thread on the OT if you are so inclined.

Shame TD doesn’t have DMs, then. Because I’m absolutely not defiling the Gaming Board with that shite
