don't know much about #3, but I followed your 1 and 2 to the letter.
Alan showed no remorse, so why should I?

ha, I think I enjoyed killing Alan a bit too much.
First I walked him half way to the "secluded area" realized I didn't have any ammunition. Walked back.
Took him into the room. He went to his knees. Click. Forgot to reload lol. reloaded. done

I get that but if they want to make it that realistic they should make survivors you rescue load up a rucksack. How come no one else on the game can drive? Bring back a car now and then.
That's my only issue. You have to do all the bs with no benefits.

Hopefully they do updates and addons to this game

I agree.
It's obvious the devs wanted an mmo style game IMO. I think they started on that path and realized partway thru it was too ambitious for an xbla title.
I feel almost cheated or penalized when I'm not playing. My top 3 characters, two are missing. I level them up and they send the same ones on runs every time.
And why do I have to do everything solo? During the real apocalypse I'm not opening the door alone much less running to another town to load up a rucksack full of food or materials.
Like I said, if you're going to make it realistic in terms of difficultly make it consistent by giving help. At this point I'm going to focus main storyline an missions jut to get it done.
All that said, its a really fun game. Would buy again

Has anyone else used the farmhouse as home base? I'm liking how it's right in the middle of the map and has plenty of space for upgrades. Put an outpost in the barn across the street for the occasional horde and it's money.

what farmhouse? there's many

So I just started playing this and got a little way into it got marcus killed and restarted. I really haven't been anywhere past the church but where is the best home base on this map?

The one that says potential home site. It's right dab in the middle of the map. I stumbled upon it on accident when I was exploring the crop fields for materials. You would never find it if you always use the main roads to travel from town to town.
It's perfect because it is the same driving distance to all three main areas and there are dirt roads that access the main roads.

that's the farmhouse right there. I've been in the church, the alamo and the farmhouse. The farmhouse is my favorite.

Questions
I can't figure out how to do a few things.
1) How do i get my people to recover from injury? Maya got injured and i had to put her down, in spite of the fact that i kept bringing back med packs.
2) How do you upgrade your base? I'm at the church and i don't know how you upgrade anything. How do i make a silencer?
3) How do i recover stamina, other than turning off the game for awhile?
4) How do i control other characters? Maya was my last controllable character other than marcus, and i had to kill her because she was gravely injured. Marcus is now spent running around doing shite, and i don't know how to have him rest without quitting out of the game.
5) How do i create a base? i know how to tranform buildings to outposts, but don't know how to construct a base. I also have these tools for building stuff, but don't know how you build stuff. This game needs a tuturial.

Sometimes meds, sometimes ya gotta put em down. Let them rest

You may have to get to a certain part in the game, but if you radio home it will show the option to switch bases, if tehre is one

where's the Alamo?
It's right in the middle of Marshall. You don't want to go there.
It's a mexican restraurant and it's tight quarters. I was there for about an hour. As soon I got there I started building stuff. Less than 10 mins in horde after horde attacked us. I tried fighting them off at first until I gave up and hopped in a car and hauled arse back to the church to set up homebase there again.
Basically I packed up and went to the Alamo, spent all my building materials then had to haul arse back to the church where I had to start over with no resources left. It's called The Alamo for a reason.
