And to the point where someone said (I think scruffy) that male gamers don't feel like they can be male anymore, maybe it's about them not being the meatheaded male gamers they've been forever. You know the ones, lose their shite when they find out a girl is playing and starts to spew out every vile thing they can think of. Dwight Schrute is their hero

I've seen a bunch of female youtubers and streamers out there. A lot of their stuff gets to my twitter timeline all the time. Males dominate the demographic, but female numbers aren't as minuscule as you want to make it to be where "catering" to them is a dumb idea.

IMO you should start policing the steam forums and comments like you do the GB

Very, very few people here are impressed with your clumsy attempts at virtue signaling.

You can easily go find a click of other self loathing beta males and you can all talk in circles for hours about how horrible straight, white males are to prove how "woke" you are to each other.

That was a response to the backlash. Think you're reaching with that one.

It speaks to me as someone being so stuck in their ways, that they'll either succeed or fail and be fired. Much like Don Mattrick at MS with his horrible X1 start. His response was very similar as he told people to not buy their new console if they wanted something to play offline.

Eh, they kinda are.

Especially in the case of shooters.

Has that demographic grown some? Sure, but it is still extremely small.

The research I have seen shows that the percentage of gamers who enjoy FPS and tactical shooters and are female is somewhere between 2-7% of that genres entire player base.

The numbers are tiny.

Females don’t flock to those genres.

Honest question: would you be fine with more inclusion if it didn't come with the perceived underlying message of "down with males"? I say perceived because I know a lot of that is out there, and I'm not going to apologize for being a white male. That crap needs to go because it's not helping anybody. But I also don't think it's the case ALL the time. Sometimes it's just "this might be really interesting if we go the female route" with no agenda.

Each side is trigger happy.

Sure.

I recommend not calling it “inclusion” though.

Just make a good game and create decent characters.

Don’t make the race or gender of the character the most important aspect.

If you do that, no one would care.

Yea, and those usually turn out well. I listed examples earlier, but we can run through some more.

The Last of Us 2 - No one cares that she is a female. The story will be fantastic. Her gender is irrelevant.

Mirror’s Edge - Not a single person complained about the gender of the main character.

Horizon Zero Dawn - No one gave a crap.

I could even list all the games out there where people can make their own characters as females or any race, and no one cares.

The important thing that these companies need to do is make it organic. Don’t force it. Don’t beat people over the head with it.

And, for God’s sake, don’t tell the consumers to go frick themselves if they find something not to their liking or annoying.

Shocked by this considering the heavy matriarchal themes.

Because it made sense in the context of the game.

That's what I see you continually missing in this thread. It's not the inclusion of females in games...it's the context of why they were included.

People play video games, watch sports, tv, etc. in order to escape from the perpetual bullshite they have to deal with in every day life. When media producers start injecting political narratives in to the very few places people can escape this shite, they get pissed off. And rightfully so.

It's why people are angry over Total War. It's why people are angry about casting Ciri as a minority female. It's why people are angry about all the political shite on ESPN and the whole kneeling fiasco.

People get angry about the dumbest shite. It's a video game. I wouldn't care if Total War patched in only female characters to Rome 2.

People are just looking for reasons to be angry. What a waste.

I get that point, but the Total War thing proved a point that not everything is a political point and often time not as egregious as the kneejerk reactions would suggest. It was an old patch, the percentages showed that the screen with all 5 of the options being females was probably fudged/modded, and showed that even with the inclusion they were still historically accurate with the time and regions.

The Battlefield V stuff doesn't make sense to me because we know absolutely nothing about it. Sure, they made her the cover of the box art (the horror), but there are 3 other people in that group, all who are probably as badd arse if not more than her. Again, we know nothing. But the initial reaction was to overreact. Fox even objected to the black guy with blue face paint because of some notion of gay pride. How delusional do you have to be to go there?

The reaction from the CEO of EA was ill advised, but the outrcy was so ridiculously over the top, it's kind of not surprising.

Well that and telling gamers that they’re stupid when they have a legitimate criticism like with Mass Effect 3
