I played this once when it came out and never gave it a second playthrough. Decided to run through it again and was really enjoying the first few chapters, even though 90% of my time was spent doing sidequests. Then when I finally decided to return to the main quest, it was just a railroad straight through to the end game. I was even fine with that, but Chapter 13 is such a miserable fricking slog and you spend more time here than you do on all the other main quests combined to this point. I would pay money to skip this part.

I'm just grinding through out of spite because I know I'm about two hours from the end.

Play Xenoblade Chronicles. It's great.

I replayed it first thing when I got my ps5 and enjoyed it once again.

Ardyn is an excellent antagonist.

I never finished it. I got wildly bored after the 15th hour of pointlessly driving in a car

It's just a big mess; you can definitely "sense" the potential for a great game somewhere in there.

The game was thrown together from the remains of VsXIII and it really shows, it's almost painful. The funny thing is, I think Nomura is slowly trying to bring his orignial vision back to life in the next Kingdom Hearts entry.

I keep forgetting about this game. Started it and never finished it. It was so bad.

Every time I start to get excited about an FF game, I just remember they haven’t actually made anything brand new that didn’t have major flaws since literally 2001, pre Square and Enix merger.

Ardyn was an excellent villain. The actual story is somewhat amazing, just delivered so clunkily.

I definitely don’t agree that it was a bad game. I really enjoyed it. While there was clunky bits from the development hell it experienced, it was worth it. Ardyn was amazing and I LOVED the last few hours of the game.

I played through and beat it when it first came out for PS4. The last few chapters were so awful in their execution that I have never wanted to play through it again.

I would say that for all its flaws, FF15 has good gameplay. The open world of 15 is vastly overrated though. If you aren't paying attention, you could blow through it in a couple hours, and then it's Final Hallway 2.0 straight to the end.

The story, without all the DLC that actually finishes the game, makes absolutely no sense.

Me either. From what I can remember, I had a blast playing it.

One of the larger complaints I had with the game. Carving out chunks of the plot for dlc and making you watch side content to understand the invasion that happens early game. The most egregious example is how ignis just randomly shows up blind after an offscreen battle.

I meant to go back and replay the game after all the dlc was added in to flesh out the plot but I could never make myself go back.

Totally forgot that when Noctis wakes up from 10 years of crystal hibernation everyone's just like oh hey, welcome back. Let's catch a ride and end the game now, but not before we bang out a handful of side quests.

Also the final battle was just Super Saiyan showoff scene more than an actual fight. I guess all the minibosses leading up served as the ultimate party battles, although they were some just random as frick baddies (I think).

Didn’t they make some online game mode or quasi mmo to justify the 10 year span of time while noctis was out of the picture?

Jesus this game was chock full of weird unnecessary offshoots.

I can recall a time when I craved getting the “whole story” with entertainment media. Creators across various mediums have abused this impulse so badly that I crave brevity at this stage.

A tight well contained lean narrative beats this overwrought nonsense 10 times out of 10.

Yes, this was Comrades, supposedly trying to fill in that 10 year gap. I think you can still get it for like $10.

They also released a NOVEL later on that served as the "definitive finale" of the game, instead of more planned DLC. Instead of...you know, including all of that content in the game like they should have.

Seriously, anyone interested should look at the cliffs for this final book. It's just as crazy as anything out of Square Enix recently, but they could have taken some more time and completed their vision.

It's baffling to me how Square Enix has lost the plot so hard with Final Fantasy when they have proven to be perfectly capable of creating an amazing traditional JRPG with Dragon Quest 11.

Are you playing legendary edition with all the bonus dlc and doing them during their correct parts along the story? If you do that the story of FF15 is honestly really good, I got by a lot of just chillin with my bros and shite, the game isn’t difficult but you can moderate your own difficulty with an accessory the legendary edition (or whatever it is called) gives you plus the ability to switch characters in combat. It’s a solid 8/10 when playing the full complete game

I mean, FF15 isn’t a perfect game and playing it on launch was about a 4/10. They put years of work into the game and tying the games story and gameplay and bro adventure into a coherent, well fleshed out, coming of age prince theorized to save the world. They massively fixed and upgraded return to darkness insomnia and the game has a a strong emotional pull on you. It’s a very emotional final fantasy game if you go into all the side/micro content which yeah is bullshite but still required.

I very much enjoy the 13 trilogy. 13-2 is one of the best JRPGs of all time, If nothing else is gameplay and design. Lightning Returns flips all of it on its head and some of the hardest FF gameplay ever created is in that game. The first part of the trilogy was pretty great too imo about 7/10 but they botched the first 3 hours of the game sooooo bad most hate it for that

You can downvote for the 13 takes because I accept I am very likely in the minority of opinion on that one. Saying FF15 sucks 2023 when you’d have to be a a blind retard actively trying not to play the crystal kings version so you get a ton of free extra content the devs spend 3-4 years fixing that shite but at least it got fixed and if you drop like 75% of combat and just so story, mini games, set pierces, etc it’s an 8-8.5/10 easy
