Kind of always wanted to try it out. Remember it being a love/hate here.

I'm as big a Kojima fan and defender as there is. I hated it.

Gameplay got very old, story and writing are by far his worst ever.

It's the base version (rather than Director's Cut), so it's missing content and QoL changes, so it might be less enjoyable.

With that said, I recently purchased a PS4 disc of the base game for $10 and upgraded it to the PS5 Director's Cut version for $10 because I've been curious about the game (especially how structures other people build appear in your game)

It’s pretty wild and whacky but I enjoyed it. Wouldn’t go back and play it again but it was unique. If you have gamepass might as well try it out.

I played the original version of the game and very much enjoyed it. Just go in knowing that it’s not really going to be like anything else you’ve ever played before. Just lean into it and enjoy it for what it is.

I enjoyed it enough that I purchased the Director’s Cut upgrade on Steam when it was released.

In a nutshell, you don’t see any other structures when you first enter an area. Once you progress far enough to “connect that area to the network”, other people’s structures may appear. How many and which depends on your network connection score (based on things like number of likes) and who you add as a network connection. You can also delete structures you don’t want.

It’s an interesting and clever way to build in the feature as an in game conceit.

I played it on Playstation Plus. It felt like anime Eurotruck simulator.

Would be an excellent podcast game.

i played through to the end and have no idea why. it got so convoluted, so absurd, so mindless. the boss battles and combat weren't fun in the slightest. the writing was garbage.

just not for me AT ALL

I'll acknowledge that the combat was easily the weakest part of the game. I avoided it whenever possible, even once I got more powerful weapons, unless I was trying to farm Chiral Crystals.

I wasn't always in the mood to play it, and I'm not sure I would replay it in the future, but I genuinely enjoyed my time with it, and it's a gaming experience that I'll always remember because of how unique it was. In short, I'm really glad to have played it after putting it off for so long.

Also, building roads was one of the most addicting things I've ever experienced in a single player game

A lot….. don’t remember much of the story besides that it was weird as frick and I had no idea what the frick was going on when I beat it.

I also pressed through it and beat it in the first week or two it was out so no one really knew wtf was going on with the whole build shite together thing

A lot of the background story comes from reading interviews/journals. No wonder you didn’t know what was going on

One of the best big budget games in years, in my opinion. You have to be okay with playing a delivery simulator, though, as that's how you spend most of your time in the game.

Lots of creativity and originality that you don't see a lot of in modern video games.

Even the reviews that liked it admitted it wasn't even a video game.

If you're in the mood for some really experimental digital experience or whatever, you can try it.

If you want an actual game you'll be disappointed.

I’m not even sure what this means. How do you define “video game”?

It’s definitely not for everyone, that’s for sure. You’d have to look really hard to find a game that was as polarizing. People either really liked it, or really hated it.
