I played some more last night, and simulated a few games to move my first year in dynasty along.
The difficulty level between Varsity and All American is insane. I can win 49-7 in Varsity, and struggle to win 24-21 in All American.
Still having a great time though.

I’ve gotten better at kicking after throwing my controller a couple times at shanking 35 yard kicks..

They have to do something with the sim engine too. Seeing stacked teams lose to random sisters of the poor too often.
Just saw Bowling Green beat Penn State 28-21

Unpopular opinion, but I figured there would be a shite ton of issues this year. That’s why I’m waiting until next years version to purchase.

I played my first game in dynasty with LSU vs. USC on varsity last night, 7 minute quarters..
I won 63-31. The passing game for the computer is way too juiced. 1 of their receiivers has 198 yards, another had 120. 450 yards passing for USC. , about 80 yards rushing.
Defense, i had 2 safeties, a blocked PAT that was run back for 2 pts, and a blocked FG. I had about 350 yards passing, and another 120 yards rushing, and a returned kickoff from Caden Durham (who's really fast, BTW).
I still can't figure out a consistent defense that stops a bomb. Both bomb passes from USC were when i was running cover 3 or cloud 4 defense. And i can stop their offense all day on 1st and 2nd down. 3rd down is an automatic 1st every time.
Like others said, the difference between varsity and AA is ridiculous. I was getting trounced by App state on AA in play now. But i beat USC a little too badly for it to be realistic. And even on varsity, the ease at which they were passing was annoying. But for the 3rd game i've played, late 3rd and 4th quarter is when the CPU started throwing bad passes and their receivers started dropping passes, and my CPU controlled defenders started actually defending passes.
And....RPO. I truly don't understand the controls. For an option run, you hold A to keep the ball (xbox) with the qb. However, running an RPO, if i hold A, he hands off the ball to the RB. Considering i have LSU's playbook, i need to figure this out. Otherwise, i just pick any play without RPO.
And to that, the depth chart in play now, is completely different than the one in dynasty. I think i may know why. It asked if i wanted the default rosters or active rosters to start. I picked default....shite. I think i have to restart my dynasty, dammit.
ETA: I guess this will give me a chance to setup my recruiting better than what i did.

LSU defense is bad in this game. Any Power 5 QB I have faced is basically a Heisman candidate. I have tried Man to Man coverage, Zone coverage, man blitz, zone blitz. Nothing works. The receivers get open and then no one can tackle. The run defense is solid. I have made 3 pick 6’s but only one against a Power 5 team (UCLA) late in the game. I will get a pass rush and then a roughing the passer penalty.
Nussmeier throws a lot of INTs as the computer defense is ridiculous against the pass. Williams is a beast running the ball. He is averaging 150 yards a game. Taylor makes all the catches. Thomas is my best WR threat as Lacy can never get open.
Love the gameplay and the recruiting. Have not heard Neck yet. Wonder when it should be played. I was blowing out the scrub team in the 2nd week and beat UCLA by 21 but never heard Neck.

Not all RPOs include a QB run option. Some are either a quick pass or handoff only. Make sure you're selecting an RPO read play if you plan on keeping with the QB.

The issues aren't glaring enough to wait for next year's edition, IMO. And I'm sure they'll become fewer and fewer as patches and updates get released.

Yeah they have a solid foundation. If they patch it over the next few months, it will be even better.

yeah I made the cfp and my first round opponent was a 9-3 Kansas state team, who was legit the 3rd easiest team I played that season.
Finished my first dynasty season last night and a 10-2 Rutgers won it all over Oklahoma State

I had the same question
That’s how much progress you and the other teams made last week and partially how much you’re expected to make with current pitches.
It’s useful when you’re trying to figure out if you need to put more time into a recruit. Basically if you’re the only team offering and with a lightly shaded area on the influence, then you’re the only team going for the guy. No need to put time into that recruit until you have hours to spare later.
I’m trying to learn recruiting so I’m simming every game. So far I’ve gotten the #1 class and #5 class. I’ve signed about 35 players in both seasons.
ETA: just found a LG from Monroe, LA whose name is Keke Baadknews. Officially my favorite video game name ever.

Finally got home and got to play last night. I'll echo the concerns already posted here, but overall really enjoyed it and glad it's back.
But holy shite the kicking. Way too finicky, I just super simmed every attempt after a couple games on my dynasty.
And it felt so satisfying moving Texas and OUs asses back to the B12 where they belong

I will say I do remember the sim engine being just as weird on 14. Bama was perpetually a bottom feeder in any dynasty I made on 14

I kinda like the kicking honestly because in college not everyone is automatic like the NFL. I think I figured it out too at least I think. Say you’re on the left hash trying to kick a fg. Line your arrow to the right to be center of the field goal, then you’re going to want the accuracy button to be in line with where your arrow is pointing. Where I fricked up was thinking you always had to have the accuracy button dead center in the green.
Also I shank kicks or have them off line when I fill my arrow power all the way to the red so I try to stop right before it.

Am I correct to assume that the red gems that pop up occasionally when scouting someone means that he’ll most likely be a bust? And green means he’s an underrated kid with potential? I might have missed that in a tutorial.
I’ve played around with this a bit so all of this is purely anecdotal. The better way to think about it is the player is likely 1 star better or worse than their actual star rating.
5 star gem is likely one of the best players in the class - I found a 5* gem LT that was an 80 overall - one of the highest freshman overall I have seen.
A 5* star bust is more or less a 4* player. I just got a 5* bust WR who was still a 75 overall when he got to campus.
Similarly, I found a 4* gem who ended up being a 78 overall and a 4* bust at center that ended up being a 68 overall.
From my experience there doesn’t seem to be a correlation between gem/bust and development trait. The LT 5* gem was a “star” and the 5* bust was “impact” - so it’s not like the bust is guaranteed to be “normal” or the gem to be “elite”.
Generally it seems to be:
5* gem = 79+
5* bust < 77
4* gem = 75+
4* bust < 72
I don’t recruit 3* busts and haven’t stumbled upon a 3* gem (that I recall)
A random aside since I already wrote this dissertation, I’ve had a few 3* commit instantly when I’m their #1 team. That’s without the coaching talent that gives the chance for an immediate commitment.

Conference maneuvering could be a good way to combat the sim, i set each conference at 8 conference games, made each power conference have 12 teams only, as well as put divisions back in the mix. Starting to see more teams get the wins they should get.
