Seriously, where does Battlefield even go next. The last 3 have been set in modern times (I think). There's only so much you can add. If you go to the future that opens up so many question marks

ETA: They need to revert back WWII or Vietnam. Hell, they have a Medieval "FPS" out now (Chivalry). Why not give the Civil War a run?

Socom2

AMEN.

Why do FPS's not allow users to create custom lobbies that are joinable like in Socom?? I have never understood why COD doesn't have this option. There should be an entire server dedicated to this that is filtered by regions.

I stand by my claim that if Sony was to simply put out Socom2 with new graphics it would be awesome.

ARMA is legit as frick, I'd play that over any console shooter if I had a gaming PC.

GRFS was a breath of fresh air. I didnt even mind that it was a TPS. Same will be for "The Division" IMO. Like AJF i enjoyed Warfighter for what it was and what it tried to be. It just fell flat in a few critical areas and never caught on witht he masses.
I think hyper-realism is a pipe dream. You are never going to marry all the best qualities of a FPS and please enough people to make any money. Like LewDawgs meme points out, anytime the studios do something different ,gamers start banging their bitching drums and complaining about how " its not like insert previous title here !!!!1 OMGZNOOOOOO"

Its going to take a studio with enough cache and community support to even remotely consider something new.......ENTER TITANFALL

Whoever mentioned Americas Army was right on the money. That was an incredibly awesome game. It wasn't just run and gun, took a good bit of coordination and skill to be good. I really liked their leveling system because it didn't include a whole bunch of nonsense and crazy perks. It was straight forward, but not boring at all.

I also think third person shooters will start to see their way back to popularity.

Titanfall is not really what I'm looking for, even though it will be new blood. I want something that feels like the last 30 minutes of Zero Dark Thirty.

Did you ever play Rainbow 6 on N64?

You had to plan out your missions before each level. Set way points for each team. Choose a limited number of items for each team member. Every team member and gun you selected had very different strengths and weaknesses.

It was incredibly tedious.

I generally just went with a preset game plan and played it like any other FPS.

I got the game expecting something like Goldeneye. Not my cup of tea at the time I suppose.

Battlefield 2, on PC was the greatest. And it was made even better with Project Reality. Nothing will ever top it.

Activision actually made a civil war game a while back.

Wait I wasn't going for hyper realism. I didn't want it to come across like that. I just mean authentic. Think back on Warfighter. You knew when you were holding an HK416 or an DDM4V1 or AK4 or AK5 or F88. They all had authentic feels.

In CoD or BF, most guns feel and sound the same. There's no difference except for maybe some damage ratings and range ratings.

As far as Titanfall goes, this thread was about military FPS games. Not military training exercises. And definitely not mech war games. Titanfall will probably deliver on what it is. But what it is isn't what I'm interested in. I can still appreciate the effort, though.

Really sounds like you need to get with a military realism clan/squad running ARMA 3 AI and PVP Missions.

Snipers actually function as snipers in the real roles they are meant to function. Pilots only pilot. People actually run real formations and not just go Rambo. People that try to Rambo die fairly quickly.

Try to find a squad that runs a Domination server for a slight taste of what they do. If a lot of the squad is on, they will be running squad tactics.

Warning, some squads take it incredibly too far on the realism and take rank seriously and such.

I think you might be romanticizing Warfighter. I too played the game and it was a run of the mill military FPS with terrible spawns and awful graphics.

AJF is strictly console. And he was a fan of Operation Flashpoint, so he's somewhat familiar with that type of game.

And sounds like he refused to play quality FPS titles because they aren't real enough for him.

I can't wait until March when I gonna be enjoying the shite out of Titanfall and then in September when I am enjoying Destiny.

Maybe he will enjoy the Division whenever it comes out.
