Which one would give me a good introduction? I recently bought an Xbox series S and have Game Pass
I know Black Flsg is a favorite but are there any others?

In no particular order:
Assassin's Creed 2
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
Assassin's Creed Black Flag
Assassin's Creed Origins
Assassin's Creed Odyssey
I think Odyssey (ancient Greece setting) is the biggest fan favorite out there besides Black Flag. I loved Origins and it's ancient Egypt setting. Probably go with one of the newer titles like Odyssey. I never played Valhalla.

I heard mirage is good as well? You played that one?

Assassin's Creed III and then Black Flag
I had a lot of fun with Unity, but after that they started changing the game too match from tradition AC gameplay for me.
Black Flag is the must play one.

Start with the Ezio trilogy of 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations.

Mirage blows. I’ve played near all of them

I couldn’t find the motivation to finish Valhalla. It’s meh.

I like BF, Origins, Odyssey and 3

Stared Odysessy tonight. Game feels super clunky tbh. But I’m only an hour in. Hopefully it picks up

This is the answer.

I already started AC Odyessy but I may backtrack to the earliest ones and work my way up. I can already tell I’m going to get annoyed with grinding and the RPG elements.
Also not a fan of how floaty my movements are. Nothing feels like it has any weight to it.

Then play 2 through Revelations. They’re straightforward

Play the Ezio Trilogy first.
I also recommend the "Kenway" trilogy
Black Flag
AC Rogue
AC 3
Up to you if you play the Kenway games in chronological order or release order. The plots of the three games don't really have much to do with each other beyond recurring characters.
I adored AC Odyssey when it launched. I played it for 117 hours. The thought of going back and re-playing it makes me nauseous though. It's a fantastic game if you have the time to commit to it.
Origins is a bit more palatable from a length standpoint and plays a lot like Odyssey. I found Ragnarok to be a slog.

not syndicate. i was excited about the old london theme and that game was hogwash. haven't played the series since.
I may give the one coming out later this year a try.

i know they are a bit dated at this point but i would start with the ezio series (AC2, brotherhood, and revelations). they are still fun games and probably the best of them from a narrative perspective.
id skip AC1, just read a synopsis so youre not 100% blind going in.
From there id go with black flag just cause it so god damn fun.
After that really whatever you want. My personal favorites were syndicate, origins, and Valhalla (although Valhalla is a bloated game).
Edit: i just read you didnt like the rpg elements, so valhalla might not be up your alley.

Completely agree.
I hadn't played an AC game since the original, but decided to randomly play Black Flag and loved it. So, I decided that my next AC game would be Syndicate because the London theme seemed awesome (including a Jack the Ripper DLC and meeting all the cool historical figures), but man, that game was such a slog to get through.
I eventually tapped out when I got to the Triple Theft mission in Sequence 8 and haven't played another AC game since.

AC2, Brotherhood and Revelations are Ezio's trilogy and he's widely regarded as the best main character in the series. The games are a little outdated but not too bad. The graphics for the cities in the remastered versions still look pretty good. Character movement is frustrating compared to new games, but I think you'll get used to it quick. 2 and Brotherhood are basically 1 long game (combined still probably a quarter of the length of one the newer games). Revelations is also a short game and wraps up Ezio's story along with the accompanying short movie Embers. I would also recommend watching Lineage which is a 30 minute prequel movie...if you know nothing about the plot I'd watch it after AC2; if you're familiar with the plot go ahead and watch it first.
For the newer games Odyssey is my favorite. Be prepared for 80 hours to finish and over 120 for all DLC and doing most of the side stuff. Origins is also great and maybe better if you're really into Ancient Egypt. I think it's still a similar length. Valhalla is also pretty good but is the longest and most bloated of the newer games. I think a lot of people have burnout by the third game.

I like Black Flag the best, but I'm a sucker for pirate games.
The last one I played was Odyssey. Man, that was a fricking grind. I tired to play it two separate times, but I just couldn't bring myself to suffer through it all the way.

I’m with you on that one brother. Idk how much more I can take. It’s such a big world but it all feels the same somehow, especially the missions. So much repetitive shite
