Walking out of the dungeon to the open world of Oblivion. First real rpg I'd ever played.

Top Gun on nintendo and that olympic game where you had the pad on the floor. Me and friends tried so hard to beat cheetah, but never could.

There have a been a few.
But one that resonates is walking out of the vault for the first time in fallout 3. The graphic improvement form ps2-3 and that being the first game I played on 3 was like whoa.

Goldeneye. My neighbor had rented it and a 64 for his birthday party and we all stayed glued to that thing.

Personally it was Uncharted

This game definitely did blow my mind.
And then when I figured out how to make her do a handstand 13 year old me was even more blown away

DK64 - first time seeing 3D graphics and the jump from what I remembered of the 2D country series on the SNES was crazy.
Splinter Cell - the graphics, shadows, atmosphere... never played a game like it before. Didn’t particularly care for MGS games at the time, so SC quickly became one of my favorite all time games.
Oblivion - never played the older ES game or many open world games up to that point. As others have said, stepping out of the first sewers/dungeon and looking around was an experience that definitely left an impression.

Super Mario 64 or Goldeneye 64
Probably more Super Mario, seeing all of that in 3D was pretty awesome as a kid.

Had a subscription to Nintendo Power and got this in my mail one day:
Seen a few DK64 mentions in this thread. Good pick but the original DKC was just jaw-dropping.

then zelda BOTW; but the graphics in some JRPG's of today are surreal amazing. DQXI & Trials of Mana to name a few...

Tie between the following on PS1:
-Tomb Raider
-Resident Evil
-Metal Gear Solid
Non sports game I played the most was Choplifter on Sega Master System.

I'll take this another way, a game that blew my mind that had nothing to do with improved graphics or what a game could handle (scale of the world, etc) was Windwaker.
I knew something was up with the story and how it would tie into traditional Zelda, but getting sucked underwater and discovering Hyrule Castle frozen in time below the seas definitely blew younger BCLA's mind.

I have a different take on how Goldeneye blew my mind.
I remember borrowing my buddy’s 64 to play it. He had made it to the jungle level so I tried to start there. I remember it being so difficult to navigate through the jungle because it was hard to see shite. I literally couldn’t do anything.
I decided to try and start from the beginning and had the same issue with The Dam. It was so dark and I couldn’t see shite.
After several days I almost gave up until I discovered that my tv had a function where you could brighten the picture

Mind fricking blown....problem solved....glued to my tv for the next week that summer

Heck yeah. I was immersed in the fact that other real people were in game at same time and then with no maps losing my corpse and all my stuff was awesome.

grew up on Super
so the entire 64 experience was something as a kid that showed me the promise of gaming and has left a mark on me but the clear cut best of that generation and the game that still stays with me is Ocarina. I mean the graphics, story, music, gameplay, the world all of it just packed into one game. It was the first open world RPG that allowed you to somewhat explore on your own and really just take it all in.
Star Fox 64 with the Rumble Pack was also one of those first time experience games I will never forget. it is a real shame we have never gotten another true Star Fox game since. Not trashing Adventures because I liked Adventures but Nintendo kinda just benched the character and franchise and IDK why. Fox 64 was one of their best selling games.
