Just getting back into playing Fallout: New Vegas, and the reviews for 4 look good. I'm not much into gaming anymore, or spending money on it, but 4 is cheap enough now that I'd consider it.

Should I go ahead and pick it up? I know Reddit seems to hate it, or at least have mixed views, but I'm loving this reply of New Vegas, so I'd love to check it out if it's really worth it.

Couple notes: I mainly play Shadow of Mordor, Dishonored (1), NCAA 14, KOTOR, New Vegas, Witcher 3, Black Flag, and Forza, so you have an idea of what I'm into.

I didn't enjoy it as much as new vegas or 3, but it's an incredibly good game.

What did you feel like was lacking or not as good?

There's something really specific about New Vegas I can't put my finger on that makes it really engaging.

I enjoyed it a lot. The settlement building isn't for everyone. And the dlc left a lot to br desired. New Vegas killed it with dlc.

I wanna start a new build with mods.

I think I might enjoy the settlement building aspect.

Anything else? I'm making my decision in the next hour or so.

It's a solid game, just not as solid as the previous entries in the series. It's not as deep, but the combat is really good.

I dumped over 100 hours into it and never touched settlement building or the DLC. It's well worth the price imo.

It gets rid of a lot of RPG aspects to make the combat better and story more linear. There isn't as much choice of what to do story wise. But everything else is pretty fantastic.

It's the only Fallout game I've ever played and I loved it. One of my favorite games ever honestly. I don't understand the hate.

That's the best way to say it, 4 is less engaging than those two and I can't really say why.

The combat is way better in fallout 4 and the world is enormous.

Fallout 4 GOTY Edition just released. Most of the DLC, I hear, is pretty meh. I personally only have Far Harbor and I've been impressed so far even though the setting is very drab at times. Nuka Cola World is also ok from what I hear. So if you decide to go with 4, that bundle might be worth looking into.

I love 4 but it still didn't hold a candle to 3 and NV to me, and it took me a while to figure out why exactly.

1. Talking protagonist was a little off putting. People like to complain about the dialogue options when compared to the earlier 2, but since you have a talking main character, there's no need to spell out the dialogue and then have you character say it out. So it might be a nostalgia thing with that, but like I said in a previous thread, I prefer the silent type.

2. World seems empty. It's big, but I can walk around forever and hardly see a thing, whereas in 3 and NV I was constantly on the lookout for rad scorpions, boatflies, or raiders. To me it seemed that there aren't enough encounters.

3. Again, this is a personal thing, but all around 4 had too much to go up against in terms of how I felt about the other 2. Honestly, just with 3. NV is probably the better game but 3 was my first venture into the bethesda open world format and I've never been the same since.

Go play NV and 3 and you'll understand. 4 isn't necessarily bad, but NV and 3 set the bar so damn high that 4 was pretty much destined to be a let-down.

So what’s better: 3 or NV?

NV had a better companion system and you could craft weapons, food, medicine, so if that was your thing NV offered more. I personally preferred the Capital Wasteland as a setting, and like I said, 3 was my first.

I'd give anything for a remaster collection of those 2.

New Vegas is by far the best Fallout game IMO. I've played it twice already, and I want to play it again.

Fallout 4 is a good game, but it is very slow paced to the point to where it just gets boring. The factions are nowhere near as interesting as the ones in New Vegas.

I like both but NV edges out 3 for me.

There's just so much going on and a ton to do. NV takes what I like about 3 and just expands on it.

It's a good game, but not as good as 3 or Vegas. The best description I've heard of it so far is Fallout: Skyrim.

New Vegas was great. So many different ways to play through the game, but the main story itself is bad.

Fallout 3 has some really memorable moments.

I cannot get into Fallout 4. I am a filthy casual but the difficulty curve seems way off. Died so many times in the first couple of hours it felt like Dark Souls.
