Ok go ahead most of my posts aren’t political and I don’t start threads melting down because my candidate didn’t win or something else similar to that

You think because I laugh and point out how dumb it is to whine about “woke” that must mean I’m obsessed somehow

i know you aren’t referring to me. again, there is a search function on this website, goes both ways.

AI is still pretty far off from making decent games. It'll be fine for certain mechanical needs, but writing a coherent story long enough for a AAA game is way off in the distance.

I would think humans would be involved with the creative aspect of it and AI would be used to expedite other aspects of game development

I can't speak for anyone else, but my reticence comes from the turn of phrase "AI game studio" which I would distinguish considerably from "game studio that uses AI". Now, could he just be talking out of his arse and/or being careless with his wording? Sure. Only time will tell. But sometimes Elon likes to be different for the sake of being different. Hopefully this isn't another "we should exclusively rely on cameras and not radar/lidar for our forward car sensors!" thing.

But I have a feeling this is going to be an AI driven mess with Musk grabbing the wheel whenever he gets bored. Hopefully I’m pleasantly surprised in a few years.

Even with just a bare minimum amount of coding knowledge and the ability to use prompts correctly, I think most people could make a game with something like ChatGPT. I've tinkered with some more simple stuff just to see what I could do.

If I had to guess, it'll probably be more simple games vs him trying to make his own huge epic like The Witcher or something.

You're a fricking retard. You've OBVIOUSLY never worked in game design... EVER.

Almost anyone with a base level of knowledge can make a simple game. You really overstate how difficult it is. Especially something like a text based game

While possible, that wouldn’t really mesh with his stated purpose of de-woke-ing the gaming industry.

They absolutely could, its not even really a question

You can enter one prompt and have an entire simplistic game generated with instructions on how to load it via something like Grimoire.

Yeah I don't think he actually "de-wokes" it. You have to get through the fluff with Elon.

I do think he would love to make his own version of Diablo though. I'd play it

If he’s not going to de-woke the industry, and he’s not going to make triple or even double A games because he’s using AI to churn out basic games, then this doesn’t even strike me as newsworthy

Yeah, I don't think it is. But Elon could fart and someone would write something about it.

I'm a programmer and I don't think I could do it. In fact, I'd probably end up just wanting to blow my brains out.

I've made a couple of tiny little games over the past few decades and most recently made a proof of concept game using unconventional methods.

In that proof of concept I heavily used AI for art and a few character names, it can be helpful in many ways.

The biggest help to me as far as AI goes is that it autocompletes some things I want, especially repetitive shite. Also pretty nice with common functions and things.

You are going to need to know a good bit about AI itself to generate a prompt. I have a friend with minimal coding experience that gets help from Co-Pilot, and it helps him out a good bit. But it's honestly just like searching google.

And even if you get a response, the results aren't likely to work at all.

We most certainly must be talking about some kind of basic game, because how is it going to know any models, rigging etc?

All of this from 1 prompt and/or a series of prompts?

And from what data is it getting the knowledge to do these things from? It can only be open source code right?

I hate to say shite isn't possible in the programming world, but I know I'm wayyy more qualified than your requirements and...nope. It's going to be used heavily for many things in the gaming industry, but what you are talking about isn't going to happen with an AI that's just a really good form of autocomplete.

But I'm down to see you demonstrate. No joke, I would be quite impressed with your skills in using AI.

This is really all that needs to be said. If Elon wants to make a games studio he can. Hell, bezos already has. Nobody should read what he said and jump to think he’s going to tell grok to make the next GOTY and it happens. If anything he will just set up xAI Games or something

I just made a pong game in the Grimoire GPT with this prompt:

quote:

Make me a simple pong game with one side being black and the other being orange

All I had to do was unzip the folder it generated for me.

I've done text based games in one prompt too just to play through them and see what GPT comes up with narratively.

What exactly do you think 'simple game' means?

Something you can't fit in a premium account tweet seems like a decent start.

Something that's not just basically copied and pasted and/or could be copied and pasted.

Something unique.

Something people would actually want to play.

It's like asking the AI to write the Gettysburg Address.
