RATeamWannabe,

according to your last few stream cuts on YouTube, i feel PUBG has become too easy for you. Let's up the ante a bit. How about a shotgun only Chicken Dinner? Or a Sweat solo in a squads match Chicken Dinner? Chicken Dinner winning kill with the frying pan challenge? No kill Chicken Dinner? Your only challenge now is carrying scrubs like Diz and some of the Gaming Board scrubs around here ...

also, I hope you are growing out your mustache and upping your flatbill hat game. I think there is going to be an opportunity in the tubing'/streaming medium for such a demographic.

Thanks,

Your buddy - Klark Kent

I enjoy playing video games.. however, I don’t understand the draw of watching someone stream themselves playing.. not trying to be a dick, but what’s the point? Learning tips/tricks? Is it just entertainment? Enlighten me please

Didn’t realize that was his job when I posted, sorry. I was thinking he goes to work then comes home and streams the rest of the evening.

Blows my mind that people give people money to watch them play games. I’ve been watching twitch streams for years and it hasn’t cost me a dime.

Dude probably makes around 80k a month.

A year ago, I would have wholeheartedly agreed with you.

Little over a year ago, I was looking up some tips. Came across some streams and I've been off to the races since then. Entertainment is entertainment. Doesn't matter where you get it. I find a few streamers fun to watch.

It takes talent. Most streamers suck. Plenty go over the top with everything. Plenty are bad and you can tell their reactions are fake. It is a talent to be able to talk for 60 minutes without coming off as fake or boring. Most of the top streamers deserve the money they make.

Simple fact. There is no difference in watching a game stream than watching a football game. Both cases you are watching someone else play. You can say football is more exciting but you are still watching the action and not taking part in the action.

I'm not arguing which is more fun or better. Just pointing out that watching sports is just that...watching. Almost anything is better than watching a network sitcom.

Like any entertainment, streaming relies on good content. If the games suck, they won't be interesting to watch. Having said that and back to my earlier point, quality talent can make shitty games look fun.

tldr

In summary, I was with your negative opinions of streaming a year ago, then I just watched the right folks. I've been watching most of them daily since then.

I like watching streams in the background more than anything else. It's fun, to me at least, to watch people who are the best of the best at some games.

Guys like KJHovey and Luminosity on Destiny or Pitching Rebel on MLB the Show are a few that I watch/watched.

While it isn't necessarily streaming, I also enjoy watching 'Lets Play' videos on Youtube. Some games I know I won't like or have tried playing and didn't like the gameplay, I'm curious about the story and so I'll sit through and watch it. The Uncharted series is an example. I didn't play it early on and bought the remastered collection and couldn't get through more than 2-3 hours of the first game and said frick it. Watched a guy play them all instead.

Too hard to quantify. We do not know the cut that twitch gets. (edit: sorry we do. " This money is split 50/50 with Twitch at first, then later, as a streamer becomes more popular and established, usually around 60/40, meaning most streamers earn $2.50-$3.00 per subscriber. ")

Mine was a rough estimate on the safe side only including subs. As I heard that is what Lirik made on subs. They have about the same amount of subs.

30k subs times 2.5 to 3 dollars a sub is right in line with what I said.

But yea way more when you consider the donations, ad revenue and stuff.

streaming, I also enjoy watching 'Lets Play'

I prefer Lets Play over streaming. I hate streamers that constantly stop to thank folks for joining or donating. Or folks with a stupid amount of emoji or crap that pops up. All of that nonsense it too distracting.

I was equating lets play with actual live streaming which I guess I shouldn't have done. Most of what I watch is lets play without the constant distractions you get with live streams.

Pretty sure Dr. Disrespect and Shroud have gotten a closer to $3.50-$4 since they were/are the faces of twitch

They were the two most watched channels on twitch (outside of the esports tourney channels), and Dr. Disrespect was basically the face of twitchcon this past year

I guess over the last half a year I will agree with you. But that has a ton to do with PUBGs success.

I just would include Lirik and Summit in that. They have been doing this longer and have more viewers over all. And just about the same nowadays. I guess I am just used to old twitch. With Lirik being twitches guy for years.

I watch summit and shroud mostly, but summit has a hard time eclipsing 20k these days during prime hours. Even Ninja has surpassed him for viewers

Summits subscribers are still light years over ninjas for 2017.

Ninja is on a roll now because of fortnite. Might be the next huge name.

I cannot stand that kid though.
