Maxing out a Diablo Immortal character could reportedly cost ‘up to $110,000’

THE GAME’S HIGHEST-TIER CURRENCY APPEARS TO ONLY BE AVAILABLE VIA LOOT BOXES
quote:
In a video by Bellular News (as reported by Game Rant), its analysis suggests that the highest tier Legendary Gems, a premium currency in the game which can be used to upgrade a character in the post-game, can’t currently be earned by players who don’t pay for them with real money.
quote:
What makes this worse is that currently, players can’t purchase Legendary Gems outright, instead, they are dropped from Legendary Crests, which are the game’s loot boxes.
quote:
As explained in a Reddit thread, the amount of money necessary to complete max out a character could be even more than previously estimated, as there’s a whole level of upgrades that only unlocks once a player managed to get their 5-star gems to Rank 10. Doing this is estimated to cost upto $40,000 in loot boxes, according to the thread.
quote:WTF Blizzard?!
Once a player does this, they unlock resonating boards, which, while not yet achieved, were shown in preview images which seem to imply that a player would have to repeat the process of upgrading their 5-star gems to Rank 10 several times, adding further potential thousands of dollars, should the user choose to spend.

Gamers are retarded and allow this to happen so they’ll end up making bank still.

What is the conversion rate of legendary gems to schrute bucks?

I remember when this POS was revealed at Blizzcon a couple years back, and the guys were visibly shocked at the overwhelming negative reception, they all thought it was an April Fools joke.
Actual Blizzard response: Don't you people have phones??
I can see they released this steaming pile of shite anyway, hoping to prey on the very young and very dumb. Disgusting.

I'm having fun playing it and am $0 invested.
I guess I don't plan on being huge endgame prepared for a mobile game though.

Blizzard would have been given a pass for this if their regular PC games didn't suck since 2009
Now it's just assumed that pay to win features will make it to Diablo 4

They removed Pay to Win from Diablo3 so why do you think they would add it back to 4?
Free to Play games are different. They have to monetize them somehow.

Because Blizzard has been moving closer to more predatory business practices, not away from them. Diablo Immortal is an example of one of the worst monetization of any mobile game out there. Pay to win is a understatement.

One whale is worth far more than any other player. Games cater to whales now, not the general public. Get money or just accept that you’re riding the coattails of whales for now

People who spend tons of money on mobile games and pay-to-win crap are ruining gaming.

Blizzard is going to show how profitable immortal will be, and it will be profitable based on the habits of mobile whales
So then what is appealing about games that don't have those same revenue streams to blizzard's current investors? Blizzard are slaves to them, not people that want Diablo 4 to be a good Diablo game.
Immortal could definitely have a lasting impact on the projects Blizzard pursues moving forward.
Real money trading in Diablo 3 was way different than this. Diablo 3 allowed players to cash out which I would imagine brings on a whole different set of regulations. That is totally different than an in game shop that lets you buy things only. It probably introduced a whole bunch of legal problems blizzard had to deal with so they decided to scrap the whole RMAH because they weren't ready but they framed it like they were removing it for the integrity of the game.

What a pile of shite.
Disappointed Microsoft is letting them go through with something so despicable.
When I was a Diablo addict if you wanted a SoJ or Zod rune you had to grind for it (I got in after dupes were patched).

Scientology seems like a better deal than this.

I have to think for $110k, you would get to bang a hot Scientology chick or two, minimum.

This will keep Blizzard in the black and hopefully they use the funds to create new IP but we all now this will amplify the calls to create more mobile games from the board.

Can you occasionally play this and earn free points or whatever to upgrade your character as a casual or is it pointless to play if you aren't spending money?

Why do people live in their mom's basement if not for this?
You must sacrifice to be great.

Whales may spend but I don’t think many of them like being in a very small pond with few people to lord it over.
Going batshit with the monetization will backfire at a point by chasing out the F2P people. If there isn’t an audience, the whales won’t spend.
