What up with that?

Witcher TV Series: Ciri Casting Looking for Minority Actress
quote:

A listing recently posted on the National Youth Theatre (a British youth-focused acting site) suggests that casting officials for the web-series are searching for a BAME actress around the ages of 15 and 16. BAME is a British term which stands for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic.

Looks like another project I won't be watching if this is true. She is white in the books and the games. Why is this needed?

Sounds kind of stupid to piss off the gamers who would be the first to give it feedback, but hey who am I?

I mean, as long as they find a pale asian woman, I guess they could make it work, otherwise just not. I mean this is pretty much the whitest of white characters

Not just gamers but book readers. The books is based around stories over time within that culture.

I mean.. why do this? It makes it feel not authentic.

Considering that the core of the audience happens to be gamers who played the game and book readers who read the books, two groups notorious for being sticklers to detail, what the frick are they thinking?

It's a CG animation show.

I don't think it really matters what actress voices her.

Any time a movie or show is based on a book or something I revere, I've always been disappointed. I came to grips with the fact that the book and the movie are for two totally different audiences. As a fan of the source material, there's no way I'm going to be happy with what they put out there.

I have no dog in this fight, but I remember them doing it with Lost World. The two kids that stowed away on the expedition, in the book, were just kids who hung around the professor a lot. In the movie, they reduced it to one kid and made it Malcom's adopted black daughter. The people who make these really feel the need to put their own creative stamp on their product, wanting to avoid just copying the source.

I know in this fun political climate, everything is going to be boiled down to an SJW issue. And maybe this is. But this is certainly nothing new.

If I remember correctly, at least one of the two kids was black. The boy, if I remember right.

They just went with one kid rather than two.

Still a shitty decision and awful execution.

This is just changing the race of a character because they can, to hell with the source material.

That's true. The small braniac was a black kid. But I never got why they went with the adoption angle with Malcolm. Really didn't fit the character of the first movie or the books at all.

I don’t disagree.

Hell, Crichton didn’t even want to write the book and was pressured into it for the movie.

Malcolm was supposed to die at the end of Jurassic Park.

Yep. Reason I don't want any Daniel Suarez books adapted to movies or series.

Daemon, Freedom and Influx are some of my favorite books. Even his recent work with Change Agent would make an awesome series but don't want it touched

IDK why balloons popped into my head when read.

And then the movie ended up almost nothing like the book. What the hell was with the small army on the island

Interesting "fact", going into filming JP3, they had no working script, pretty much making it up as they went. But if you pay attention to certain plot points, there's a lot of stuff taken from the 2 books that never made it into the movie.

-The pterodactyl cage from book 1

-The facility they found was pretty much the lab from book 2.

And a few other things that escape me.

The concept of stealing the eggs was in book 2. Or at least Dodson putting them in a carry case.

They completely erased Dodson from the movie and that plot line went with him.

I might be reaching though.
