I own a 360 as well, and I don't think I'm buying an XBone. I mean, who thought of the brilliant idea of having the camera on at all time? That could be the single worst idea in gaming history.
To get my console history:
1) Genesis
2) N64
3) PS2 and GC
4) 360 and Wii
5) None yet, but in a few years I could see myself getting a PS4 or WiiU depending on their libraries.

just put something over it.
i find it hilarious you and others are basing their console choice over the Kinect.
like Microsoft gives a shite what you are doing in your living room when not gaming.

I just don't feel comfortable with Microsoft being fricking Big Brother in my living room at all times. Seriously, why the frick does that thing need to be on when I'm not playing with it? Seems like an incredible invasion of privacy. As long as that camera is on at all times, no way in hell am I buying that console.
Seriously, why doesn't everyone have a really big fricking problem with this? It's like people shrugging off the government wire tapping us, saying they don't really give a shite what we do. Maybe I'm a conspiracy nut, but I don't want Microsoft to have a camera on me at all times.

1. You can turn the camera/kinect off
2. No one gives a shite what you do. Even folks you consider friends don't give a shite. Knowing that, imagine how few fricks MS or the government give.

i think you can edit out "maybe"....
they don't. and if you think they do, you over value youself.

I just don't understand why anyone could think this is a good idea. What was the thought process behind "Let's have a camera running on our customers at all times." It just seems like the most absurd thing I've ever heard of in my life. I'm just curious about what they were thinking behind it, because I have a problem with it.

Speak for yourself, Jeff I need to know you are paying maximum attention when we play CoH2. Kinect surveillance allows me to find out

well, i'm sure this is one of their top priorities when releasing a new console.
you're going to have to come up with a better approach at hating on the Xbox One, because your current approach is trash.

Can someone explain the thought process behind it originally at least? It seems pretty astounding for them to even consider a thing, even if it's since become optional.

If your looking for just gaming, and doing nothing else, maybe buy a ps4?
But xbox live, which continues to partner with the biggest sports, tv, and movie companies is 10000000 times better. To even compare Xbox live to Sony network is laughable, and your showing your fan boy stripes. Oh yeah, Sony Network was down again, the other day. But, but it's free. Exactly.
But then again, if your just into gaming, you might as well buy a computer
Holy shite...That's a whole lotta dumb..

Sounds like you're just hearing what you want to hear.
It has been made abundantly clear that you as the owner of said console directly control when the camera is on or off.
Every cell phone and nearly ever laptop computer made in the last 5 years includes a digital camera and a transmitter. Do you own either of those things?

And over time that will help us be more targeted about what content choices we present, what advertising we present, how we get better feedback. And data about how many people are in a room when an advertisement is shown, how many people are in a room when a game is being played, how are those people engaged with the game? How are they engaged with a sporting event? Are they standing up? Are they excited? Are they wearing Seahawks jerseys?

Apparently Microsoft does gives fricks about it.
Who's in the room, what you're wearing, how you act...

And none of them have the video fidelity or feature set that the Kinect possesses. None of them can read your heart rate in real time or detect emotional vicissitudes from your facial expressions.
Additionally, it's quite easy to tell whether or not the low resolution, front facing camera on your notebook or phone is recording and uploading data.

Was this not obvious?
Did anyone really think Microsoft was bundling a $100+ wonder camera with every single next generation Xbox simply to enhance the gaming experience?
Posted on 6/18/13 at 11:23 am to Cs
It was obvious to me. Other people are in denial about it though...

That's what scares you? The resolution? And I ask you the same, are you aware that you will be able to turn this camera off?
For that matter you can turn the internet connection off.
