Activision-Blizzard Q1 2021 financials: Blizzard has lost almost 29% of its overall active playerbase in three years
Diablo the savior?

As we noted last month, Blizzard continues to lose monthly active users across all of its titles; it’s now lost 11M players in the last three years, or 29% as measured by Blizzard’s own preferred monthly active user count. Two million of those dried up just since Q4 2020. Brutal.
Diablo the savior?

They haven't done anything to update Overwatch, and aren't releasing enough about Overwatch 2.

How much did this problem intensify after its handling of some controversies involving Hong Kong protests being mentioned by a tournament winner?
Blizzard had fricked up in a number of ways by ignoring the US computer base in favor of the handheld game market favored by the Chinese, with Diablo being a flashpoint on that front, but banning a player and the interviewer for mentioning the HK protests when they have gone whole hog on other protests rubbed people the wrong way.

Make great games, it is truly that simple.

Honest Question: Do a lot of people actually refuse to buy games because of that Hong Kong stuff?
I think it's more that they announced a handheld game. I figured these numbers will climb after diablo 2 resurrected is released.

Activision Blizzard - Elevating stepping on one's own dick to an artform.

Member when Activision used to be a pioneer in the industry and their games were typically the best on the platform? I member.

No, but I do think it can knock people off the edge. For example, I know a lot of people who play MMOs essentially out of habit at this point. If a company does something to piss people off, they might stop playing "for a little while" out of "protest". But because we are creatures of habit, a lot of those people just don't come back to the game once it's not a part of their daily routine.
In short, no, put out a sexy new game and people will still buy it. But step on your dick and people playing, and paying for, your old games might stop.

Yup, Jeff Kaplan. Overwatch 2 sounds like a complete shitshow right now behind the scenes. Honestly Blizzard in general does, seems like they have lost the touch on what made their games great.

Alright Blizzard. Let's do this. StarCraft 3 with a new race crashing the party.

Lets see what new games Bungie puts out before we make this comment. Destiny 2 is still a dumpster fire

Blizzard is dead. Even the most hardcore of WoW content creators have just about given up on the game after Preach's last interview with Ion and Kaplan just jumped ship in the middle of literally lead directing the development of OW2.
Keep your eye on Dreamhaven, though. Blizzard Co-Founder Mike Morhaime started it last year and that's where the team of all the old WoWheads from Blizzard are going. Wouldn't surprise me to see Kaplan end up there eventually.

Glad my MMO of choice (FFXIV) producers actually listen to the fan base.
Pretty cool to have developers give a frick about their player base.

I love the part of the noclip doc where Yoshi P talks about the first time he tried playing XIV and it didn't last long at all. Just a horrendous system.
SE took a big gamble by allowing him to shut it down and completely overhaul that game. I fortunately didn't get to experience that early bad build. They had fixed a lot from what I could tell, but it was still rough. Writing macros out just for gear sets..........yeah, I did that.

I’ve never seen so many WoW content creators just rail on how bad shadowlands is. They are in open revolt. I’ve never played WoW but I like to watch asmondgold and I seriously think the dude is close to moving on from the game being his main stream if it continues like it has
