What's the need for having a middle man though? Explain that to me.

creates competition which is good for business and as long as the need for the physical copy is there they will always be needed.

Once again plenty of people trade in games to offset cost, why do away with that just b/c you don't like the gamestop employees even though you have multiple avenues to obtain the game.

Again your whole assumption is based off of you believing they will obtain this supreme dictatorship over other fortune 500 companies and tell them how they can and can't distribute their copyrighted media.

And the point you are trying to make that MS would keep the prices high if it did become the Fidel Castro of the console world is also poor because that would really drive more people to PS4 or PC.

Do they want to control what's on their console for piracy reasons and that's why we are getting this product with the 24 hour check and limited license usage? Yes

Does that mean this will start the Nazi movement of the console world? It's a huge leap to make to come to that conclusion.

Xbox may very well only retail their own games and any exclusive DLC they have for third party games only on their marketplace in the future but that's about as far as it will go.

No offense but this is fricking stupid. Physical copies aren't needed to create competition in the market. Anything else you say after this is just pure bullshite.

How does selling a physical copy from GameStop create competition and having only digital copies not? lt's not going to matter anyway because physical copies are not going to be around in five years and I personally am glad. I'm glad I don't have to look for discs, worry about them getting scratched up. I just want to go on my console, get on my account, click and play. I just like the idea that I can do all my gaming shopping from my console.

Because I don't see the point in having a middle man that's going to rip you off by buying your game for $5 then turning around to sell it for $40. GameStop is one of those companies I wish would go out of business for that very reason.

or giving us the options to get store specific bundles

they serve their purpose for people who like to trade in games to offset cost, once again you don't like them then use someone else. You have plenty of options out there to get a game other than some 35 year old guy behind the desk at game stop going on some nerd tangent none of us care about

It's stupid because you assume without physical copies this won't continue to happen.

There's this wonderful thing called eCommerce where you can buy anything you want all the way from bubble gum to a dirty skanks used jizz filled panties all while sitting on your couch. Somewhere in between all of that lies a category called Digital Media which includes a sub category called Digital Keys/Codes for video games.

FYI Gamestop already sales digital codes and content for games both in store and on their eCommerce site.

I normally do. But because of digital downloading directly to my console I don't have to use any middle men anymore and I'm actually helping them move towards their demise. And it makes me very happy.

yes.

this is the future.
whether it's be 2 years from now, 5 years from now, or 10 years from now. it will happen, time is the only question.

video games will be digital downloads completely.

look on PSN and XBLA now. A large margin of new titles are available for digital download a month or 2-3 months later.

And for the middleman, taking away competition. bullshite.

Look at the Steam model.
You buy new titles at retail price or sometimes cheaper and there are endless of specials, sales, and deals.

For years now, once a month someone on the GB would create a thread bitching about GameStop and how they only got $5 back for their used game and are selling it for $20

Yet, now the PSFanbois are sticking up for GameStop? The frick?

I didn't see these people crying about BlockBuster going out of business

"ZOMG, what? I can't pay $8 to rent a movie for 3 nights anymore? I watch movies instantly, without ever moving from my couch. Turrible idea!"

although, i wish this M$ effort to battle the used game market was to further push downloading game digitally instead of whatever they've got planned with DRM now.

Digital downloads are just another reason why console users need to have 24/7 internet connection.

Because the digital distribution of media is such a new venture. Especially for video games.

No one is against the copies themselves. I have sounded like a broken record explaining over and over why it's time to move past them and the trade-in bubble. I won't get into it again but I have two long threads from this week with it all if you want to read them.

i thought alot of that was to fight piracy, even with games that are on steam you can still get the physical copy.

They said they almost designed the One with no disc drive at all but that would be too much change all at once.

I only have a disc drive on my PC so I could install windows. Haven't used it since and now I know I could have installed windows with a thumb drive.
