Stay away from the guides.

Turn the HUD to expert. Removes the mini map. It's a "small" thing but it really makes you pay way more attention to your surroundings and can appreciate all the little details instead of just going from way point to way point.
Also, take your time. Don't rush right through the 4 divine beasts. Take the time to do side quests every where you go.
Oh and I'm jealous. That first cut scene where you walk out of the cave and see the landscape for the first time is incredible.

From the beginning (Plateau), you'll see a giant flying airship in the distance, after you go activate a quest beyond the dueling peaks, I'd make my way to the flying airship. Very useful to have for the rest of the game, especially when it's raining.

A lot of enemies will let you bomb them from higher ground repeatedly as long as you stay out of sight/range. Saves weapons and you have unlimited bombs. Don’t try it with a Lynel as he’ll straight up out sniper your arse.

just got it myself with a new switch, let's ride

90% of the content is exploring. The dungeons and bosses are simple, so go climb some shite

Don’t visit fairy fountains while around family members. Or at least turn the volume all the way down while upgrading your armor.

Lol that's definitely true

Just bought it tonight. Christmas present to myself. Let’s go! First Zelda since ochirana of time.

I will only give one: After beating your first Divine Beast, go to Hyrule Castle. There were some posters who refused to enter until they defeated every shrine, but by that time they're already so damn powerful and skilled that it's a cake walk and no where near as epic. You will be killed, but it is fun as shite.

in addition to the Great Fairies when in the company of other people turn down the volume when purchasing/selling items to female ran shops...they make some interesting sounds
every shrine can be completed with what you have on you after leaving the original plateau. You do not need to unlock something out in the world to complete any shrine. So be observant and use what you have and you should be able to complete it.

So if you don't typically play Zelda because you find the dungeon puzzles tedious, BoTW is a good game?

BOTW is a Great Game.
and yes. They removed their traditional grand temple/dungeon setup and replaced it with simpler and smaller scale setups
the 4 "big" dungeons are nothing compared to the old games in terms of tediousness. Everything in the game flows really well including dungeon gameplay.

The shrines and dungeons are greatly scaled down from previous games. There's 100+ shrines and I'd say all take about 5-15 minutes on average. Dungeons maybe take 30 minutes on first play through before figuring out the gist.
I actually wish they would have added more to the main dungeons. On my second playthrough I think i beat them each in about 10-15 mins.

I just did the Maze shrine in Henato, and holy cow that was hard. Tried to flip it over, didn’t work. I finally go it after like 25 minutes.

How many hearts did you guys have before you fought your first divine beast? I’m at 6 hearts, and my weapons aren’t very good. I may just keep exploring, and go back when I’m ready.

I was at 5. Go for it. Do not be afraid to get killed. Don’t make it too easy on yourself.

Not being ready is part of the fun. Seriously, why go when you have 9 hearts, shite tons of armor, and enough dishes where you don’t really have to worry about dying?

Yeah good point. It’s just most of good bows and blades are worn down. I was dumb and used the good ones I got for lower level enemies.
