Just got back from there for lunch...had the Jamaican Jerk pork chop plate with mustard greens, potato salad, baked beans, and cornbread. Delicious. Every time I eat there, I leave satisfyingly full and my afternoons are just that much better. I'm gonna miss this place when I leave BR.

is it a sandwich shop/deli, or a casual dining spot (ie, sit down restaurant)?

I just added it to our guide

I ate there at least 2 times a week when I lived in Baton Rouge...easily my favorite place.

I usually hit it up for breakfast, which is really good. Its a very casual sit or plate lunch to go type of place. 6-8 black ladies cooking and singing gospel songs. I love it

The only other places I can compare it to is Bellue's and Crawford's Two. Zeeland is much better than Crawford's and slightly better than Bellue's (which is saying a lot, b/c Bellue's is damn good).

It's more of a sandwich shop/plate lunch place. You walk in, look at the menus on the wall (which are on dry erase boards), place your order with the cashier, and sit down in one of the many bench-like seats. They call your name shortly after to pick it up at the counter. The last few times I've been, a guy was playing some music on the piano and it adds to the laid back atmosphere. The cooks are wonderful and full of personality, too.

you need to venture away from the immediate I-10 and LSU areas.

Lots of older places with character when you go out towards Florida and Airline, near Exxon, etc. But, those are areas you kind of have to know where you are going.

I drive out towards Choctaw every Monday afternoon and pass up this joint called Eric B's on N. Acadian Thwy. Have you ever been? I'm tempted to go, but obviously I'm a little apprehensive b/c of the location.

Saturday's are always a mad-dash to make it out of bed before they stop serving breakfast. And I'm always right on the cusp. Even if I lose, I still get a great lunch out of it.
