In Houston, a place known for stupid-high "Cajun food" prices, there is a place called Treebeards. Their large red beans and rice with sausage is $5.75. Another $1.50 for conrbread, and $2.95 for a small salad.

It's pretty decent. I know the former owners, one of which grew up in NOLA.

Only weird thing is... they ask you if you want cheese or onions on your red beans. I told him I was revoking his NOLA birthright, he laughed and said the locals ask for it. Stupid Texans.

Headed with the kids this summer to Gatlinburg, and on the way up, planning on stopping off at Ruby Falls and staying the night around there.

What's a good place for dinner, considering two kids?

We may also do the aquarium on the way back.

Blue Orleans in Chatty is the same way $15 for red beans
I doubt it is the same place but I went to a Cajun Place in Chatty 20 years ago and got the sampler entree and it was horrible. And I'm not too picky.

The stuff they serve as jambalaya made me want to burn the place to the ground.

White rice covered with a chicken and vegetable mixture with a tomato based sauce. fricking commies.

It's moved around town a few times, but there is a damn good chance it's the same place. It's not good. I don't go to it unless other people want to go for lunch when I am at work.

Their jambalaya sucks.

Their red beans is very good by Houston standards.

I would hope they have improved if it was the same place. It wasn't that they completely changed the recipe for all the items. If it tasted good, I would have no problem with the changes other than to say, it wasn't an authentic dish. The food was plain bad.

My local supermarket was my go to for red beans on Mondays. They always had a decent plate lunch as well. $4.99 a plate.

About 3 years ago, the build a beautiful new market. The lunch counter is twice as big with all the old favorites and new. $7.99 per pound.

Red beans and rice went to $9.00, so I load up on the fried shrimp and catfish. It weighs less.

And I guarantee it’s better than any of that nouveau, amandine, thin crust, bottled water, sauteed city food.

That’s one of the worst sentences I can remember seeing on this board. Just putting nouveau and amandine next to one another should be enough for you to pull a muscle

If someone suggest cajun food in TN just say no.

In Chattanooga try the hot chicken at Flaming Rooster.
