Yes. It’s a really good Chardonnay. Their Zinfandel is pretty solid as are the Cabernets.

quote:I think so. It is not made in what has become the typical CA style, i.e. lots of oak and malolactic fermentation. So if you like that style, you might not care for Montelena's Chardonnay.
1. Does Chateau Montelena Chardonnay live up to the history
quote:I think the Estate Cab is one of the best wines made in CA. It's made in a style more akin to Bordeaux and is a long ager. So again, if you like high alcohol, heavily oaked CA cabs, you might find the Montelena Estate Cab underwhelming.
2. Which of their other wines do you like?

Yeah, the Chateau Montelena Estate Cab is as good as it gets. I went to a tasting of it at the winery a few years back.

A client gifted me with these recently:
1993 Cakebread Reserve Cab
1994 Cakebread Reserve Cab
1995 Cakebread Benchland Select Cab
I'm thinking they are well past their peak, but still looking forward to them. Was told I should let them decant for at least a couple of hours. Maybe more '
The 1994 Matanzas Merlot is probably unremarkable.

If you are looking for white, their Sauvignon Blanc is very good. It can be hard to find.
Estate cabs are good too.

I’ve been drinking a Pinot Noir. I understand it is the best red wine for you health wise.

I have to say though... from both of my trips to wine country, Matanzas was my favorite winery to visit. We had such a good experience there.
Had a few bottles this weekend so far. Forgot to get the chenin blanc a photo, but whites really aren’t my thing anyway. Was having it with a few dozen oysters.
