So my son was born in 2006. I'm looking for a wine from his birth year that will hold age pretty well. I want to give him a case for his wedding/wedding reception (when that happens many years down the road).

So long story short, I want to get a case of a 15 year old wine that would age for another 10 to 15 years. What kind of wine would work well for this situation. I've thought about a Bourdeaux, a rioja, a Cali Cab, Cote Rotie or Hermitage. What else would be a good pick for this.

On storage it would likely be in a closet at my house so temp is 68 to 70 deg F year around. Since its not in a wine fridge I lean towards no Pinot Noir or Burgundy.

Or see if you can find any vintage champagne but you pretty much listed all the wines that would normally age well. You could also just wait and find something closer to the date of marriage. If you really must have a birth year wine though plenty of online markets have 06s

Nothing wrong with Kirkland wines. Definitely enjoyed more than a few bottles.

I seem to enjoy Willamette Valley Pinot Noir the most when I want wine. Domaine Roy et Fils, Ponzi, and Argyle are all usually in stock at my house.

You can add a Brunello or Barolo to the list of aging wines.

Would storing at 70 deg F ruin champagne? If not that is something I'd look into. I only have space for 50 to 60 bottles in refrigerated storage right now so a case being in there for a decade plus isn't an option.

I haven't used online markets before...can you (or anyone else) recommend good ones to use that are known for good storage/shipping etc?

2006 was a good year in Tuscany

Something from Marchesi Antinori would be lovely, specifically the Solaia and Tignanello.

That’s on the upper end.

Want a different idea? Why not grab a few bottles of birth year wine for when your kid turns *21* and open them then.

Then whenever kid gets married by a case of wine from that year for them to open later on down the line.

That’s probably a smarter play.

I like this plan better.

Two bottles is much easier to manage...and no assurances a 20 to 30 yr wine wouldn't go bad storing at 68 yo 70 deg F. I'd hate to have a case of 25 to 30 year old wine that was ruined.

I might do a couple of bottles of red and a bottle of champagne from 2006...the rest I'll buy later.

My weekend.

Cuttings I thought was excellent. Kirkland Signature Oakville for $20 is solid. The Arietta was fine but underwhelming.

Had a glass of quilt at dinner on Friday night with French Dip. It was smooth but finish was weak.

I picked this one up randomly at Bet-R the other day because it was one of the only bottles in my daily drinker price range that I had never seen before (don't usually go to Bet-R). I was pleasantly surprised by it.

Went to Texas wine country last week. It was no California, but still fun. Becker had my favorite wines, and I somehow got talked into joining the Grape Creek wine club. I'll probably let a shipment or two come in and then move on. I have been wanting to join a club from a reputable wine shop where I can get a variety.

I joined several wine clubs when I went to Napa Valley a few years back. I've whittled it down to one (Chateau Montelena). I now prefer just to order what I want from vineyards as they tend to ship "filler" wines with their memberships in addition to a bottle or two of the really good stuff.
