Why can't drinks be charged to the table?

I've had plenty restaurants offer to transfer to the table when the hostess tells me my table is ready and I'm in the bar I usually say no so I can tip the bartender who made the drink instead.

90% of the time I close out so the bartender gets the tip. But have not really run into any fine dining place that wouldnt transfer if asked.

They can. What's happening is the bartender that's been serving you wants to guarantee they get a tip on your drinks, instead of you tipping your servers for it with the rest of the meal

because the server and bartender get different tips. If you ever worked at a restaurant, you'd understand. Most places do transfer, but if they dont, who fricking cares?

Is it that big of a deal to leave a reataurant paying 2 seperate bills compared to 1?

exactly, every place would do it if asked, nonproblem. It's just kind of a dick move to stiff the bartender imo

If you were to transfer the check say on $40 in drinks to the table where a server will pick up the rest of the meal. The bartender wouldn't get the normal $6 tip (15% of $40), instead they would get tipped out from the server for those drinks $.60 (1.5% of total sales)

No problem where I live.

Several have already answered this question, but as a former bartender, it most likely has to do with making sure the bartender is compensated for his/her service to you.

It's very frustrating to spend a great deal of time making drinks for a group of guests, only to have their bill transferred to their table and not receive a penny for your efforts. You've spent time serving them that you could have given to your other (tipping) guests, or prepping your bar, etc...

As others have mentioned, slip your bartender a nice tip, and I bet that issue goes away quickly.

This. This is one example of why it's a good idea to carry some cash with you. Tip the bartender in cash, have the drinks transferred, and then exclude those when tipping the waiter.

This isn't complicated.

How about just leave the bartender some cash and tell him to add it to dinner bill if you don't want to close out.

I do it all the time.
You'd be amazed how things go when tell somebody instead of ask them.
