re: Why are ALL NY Style Pizza Restaurants the same?

Yea, I’d expect even the highest end range to be pizza, calzone, a handful of salads/sandwiches and then a couple pasta entrees. Throw in some garlic knots and you are set.
And 80% of it is recycling the same ingredients around different carbs.
250 options across multiple ethnic backgrounds is far from normal pizza places

Restaurant business is tough. Pizza places are the most common fast food out there and they hope to attract a wider crowd of folks by offering many varied menu items. Obviously this type of place is not your thing. I would avoid them if I were you.
No sense in bringing this type of unhappiness into your life. Just drive on by and try somewhere else. Perhaps try a chicken finger place. they usually have fewer options to confuse your dinner plans.

LL, thats exactly what I was thinking. It sounds like those Arab owned places that served American stuff like pizza, burgers, and fries but also stuff like gyro. Not that all those places are shitty but the majority are. OP, Your opinion of NY style pizza sucks

Only answer I can think of is when you look for good pizza, you either take advice from fatties or you just look for the cheapest pizza. Maybe you’re just a serial exaggerator.
I have never experienced what you describe and I’ve been eating NY style pizza almost weekly for the past 3 years.
Maybe some advice will help. Only eat pizza at a place with a wood fired pizza oven. These people give a shite about pizza and don’t cut corners. Some will still disappoint with the crust or canned ingredients, but this filtering mechanism alone will lead to good pizza the majority of the time. Never eat conveyor belt pizza.

I don’t understand why these types of restaurants try to sell everything and the kitchen sink on their menus.
Next time you go to one of those places (it's obvious you haven't learned your lesson and frequent them) why dont you ask the manager why they do this?
Life is not that hard.

Horrible take. Most real
NYC pizza places have a very very limited selection.

Man this post makes my head hurt.
Not really. Try Sky Pizza in Pensacola, it's great. Have to eat it on site though.
Sbarro ain't that bad. It's far from the best, but for airports and malls, it'll do.
Aren't you contradicting yourself?

But my gripe is that their menus are ALL so overwhelming over the top with an insane amount of items on their menu.

Ny style pizza is typically cooked at around 500 degrees, not the extremely high temperatures a wood oven is usually at. A conveyor oven can easily make a good NY style pizza.
As to the OP - I have no idea what kind of places you’re describing. “NY style pizza” refers to the style of pizza, not that the menu will be huge. Most typically a place that sells NY style will also offer garlic knots, some salads, and calzones. Usually the menu isn’t huge

is this what a typical NY style restaurant does in a place like NYC?
But it is what the Arabs do when they open a pizza place in Louisiana.

How many garbage threads do you need to start per day to feel better about yourself? Almost every thread you start sucks. How much attention do you need?

Years ago I was in NY and had half a day on my own, went walking from hotel and found the stereotypical NY hole in the wall pizza joint. Walked in and got a hot slice in about 1 min and walked out to eat it as I continued to walk around. It was so damn good I actually made sure to pass it a couple hours later to get another slice. I love pizza and rarely find a bad pizza but they were one of the better slices of pizza I have had.
If I could find a local place like that near me Id be all over but you do have to KISS

You used to get the best NY pizza's in NY cooked in brick coal fired ovens. Not sure if they have outlawed them or not?
