House made flavors, like grapefruit-basil, at Imperial Woodpecker. They taste less sugary/syrupy then tge sno-wizard syrups served at seemingly every stand. With most places slinging the same stuff it's more a matter of different ice textures and available toppings. I appreciate stands that sell at least some of their own flavors.

Hansen's also does a good top with their own flavors.

How does one make their own flavor? Is it basically a simple syrup or is it a rock syrup which is 2:1 sugar:water then add whatever flavoring. Interesting a grapefruit/basil. What is a woodpecker flavor?

Friend,

This may be narrow minded but to me they all taste the same. It’s simply shaved ice with flavored syrup. I’ve had none that separated from the pack.

Yours,

I'll be the Northshore outcast - but the only ones up here that come close to any of the ones mentioned are Northshore Ice and Just Chillin. Everything else up here is trash.

Plum Street is a lot different than Hansen's

Plum Street is more of a crunchy ice whereas Hansen's melts in your mouth

For me it's all about syrup quantity. If you have too little, you're eating plain ice. Too much and the ice melts and you're just drinking through a straw.

Papa sams closed down after 32 years. Damn shame. It stood up to any snoball in the greater New Orleans area.
