Momma was cleaning up after the lunch rush on a Friday. She brought out a whole tray of bread pudding with some spoons. It was me, 2 frat bros, and 4 LSU football players. We ate the whole damn thing and limped back to the fraternity house.
God I miss those smothered pork chops.

Nothing better than smothered chops with some Al Green playing in the background.

I used to go to old place over the tracks from 1991-1995. Nothing could cure a hangover like a plate from Silver Moon.

I did once find a bone in my meat loaf. I'm still not exactly sure what I was eating, but it tasted awesome.

Ate there once a week while in college from 98-02. After graduation, I took the family there for one final meal. The ride back to Nola was fun.

I miss Momma and the food.

Resurrecting this old thread after telling my high school senior son about silver moon while we ate red beans for dinner. He laughed at it being a side dish, I’m glad that was noted here. Went a bunch 88-92 years.

Hope Mama is well. She is reportedly 76. I see she is on Twitter but hasn’t tweeted in 4 years.

You'd go in there starving, thinking you're gonna finish one of those Styrofoam bowls of delicious meat, rice and beans and 3/4 of the way through it was like.. no way in hell can I finish this.

Red Bens/rice and Sausage or "New Orleans lunch" as they used to say every time I ordered it.

I used to work over in that area on Chimes and ate there often. Grub city, for sure. She would let Maryland sweep her restaurant to earn a few bucks. Anyone remember Maryland?

G Vice - well said man. You and me both. I practically lived there for at least 2 semesters. Everybody you and I ran with in college swore by The Silver Moon.

Do y'all remember the Silver Moon Cafe near LSU on Chimes? "Mama" Seabell White Thomas, the owner and chef, is releasing a new cookbook.

Her original location was located off of Nicholson near Brightside. She later opened the location on Chimes Street before closing in 2007.

If you went to LSU in the late 80s to early 2000s you probably ate there for breakfast or lunch. Mama served huge heaping plates of smothered chicken, white beans and rice, fried chicken and pork chops, collard greens, cabbage, baked macaroni and cheese, spaghetti and other delicious soul food. All for $5.50 a plate back in the day.

Mama is working on the cookbook with some LSU graduates. They're taking pre-orders to cover the cost of stunning photography and printing.
It's gonna be a beautiful book. Check it out!
