For someone like me who knows food way more than anybody else on this board, this is the only correct answer at the moment.

Rotolo’s Craft and Crust Big Apple pizza when they get it right. About 10% of the time.

I also like Rocca.

Red Zeppelin Mothership tastes good for a loaded pizza, but their crust is not my favorite.

My homemade pizza baked on a steel at 550 is quite good and my favorite. Anyone can learn if you have patience and are willing to mess up/learn.

It depends on the type of pizza you like.

Bistro Italia makes a solid NY style pizza.

NY Pizza and Pasta isn't bad, but it isn't NY style.

But if you go to a lot of places in Italy, that is what you'll often get. That's why they eat pizza with a fork.

I thought we would get the best pizza I've ever had, but when we were in Italy this summer, I found a huge disparity in the quality of their offerings.

While many were excellent, a couple of others were actually reminiscent of a Chef Boyardee pizza in the box kit. I was very surprised and disappointed with a few that we had.

We were advised to look for wood fired ovens in the kitchen before picking a pizza spot, and while that insight was helpful, it was still not a guarantee of a great pizza.

I'd agree with posters who have said that there are American pizzas that equal or surpass some of the best in Italy.

I will say.... Costco's $10 massive as pep ranks near the top when you take price into account.

I’m picking up Rocca for lunch today. Had it twice before and wasn’t impressed. Maybe 3rd time will be the charm.

Update: Nope.

I only eat Rocca in person. I won't even box my pizza if I dine in and have leftovers. That style of pizza does not travel well at all. And even though I like it, that style will never win over NY style for me.

I also think certain ones are much better than others. Their pepperoni is good hot and fresh. The pesto is strangely good because it isn't what you'd think a pesto pizza would have on it. The others.. ehhh..

Honestly, I am fine on the appetizers and sandwiches at Rocca over the pizza. The two apps we got were better than any pizza they have.

Pizza and burgers fall in the same category for me. I could eat either every day and be happy with just about any style and it's hard to pick one style over the other. I'm happy with about 90% of pizza or hamburgers.
