It's between Ray's and Billy's. Most of my family thinks Ray's is better, but it's too ricey imo. Billy's is phenominal. Their boudin balls are orgasmic too.

Hasn't been when I've been in there. Plus, they vacuum seal sausage and boudin now...big plus.

No need to travel the roads when you can get a side by side comparison of the best in Acadiana at the Lafayette Boudin Cookoff

Would love to be able to go there. But this is a day trip for a funeral, so I am not going to Lafayette, just hitting Opelousas and then back, so will have to make a stop or two.

I was wondering if anyone would mention..

Never was that fond of Meche's Boudin. But I need 10 lbs of Meches Smoked Sausage for gumbo season.

I was rasied on that stuff..

Best sausage anywhere for red beans as well.

Thanks, I may try Billys and hit Bourques on the way back to Mobile.

If you're heading from Opelousas to Mobile, the correct answer is to take I-49 to Lafayette, stopping in Carencro to get your boudin at Don's, then continuing to Mobile via I-10.

You're welcome.

Good rec, but the best choice is for him to pack the big ice chest and buy from every stop he can make.

yeah meche has good sausage. boudin has good flavor but always has gristle and bones in it. cant take choking on a bone while eating boudin.

some things never change..

Thats what my grandpa said 20 years ago..
But its the only place he bought sausage.

And he owned a meat market in Opelousas for years in the 60's

Turns out, I was right around the corner from Dons, so stopped there for boudin and some other specialty items (pound of cracklins for the ride home).

Then decided to take 190 back to BR, so stopped at Bourques and got some of the sausage bread.

THanks to all for the suggestions.

The boudin and cracklins were awesome. Will have to repost when I cook up the other stuff.

Just stopped at the Mowata store to try the boudin....God awful stuff!!! We thought we'd be in for a treat, not so much. Had NO pork flavor whatso ever and it was almost white in color. There is better boudin to be found in Ville Platte, Eunice, Mamou, Opelousas, and Lafayette.

That is disappointing to hear. Had hoped to try their boudin sometime.
