I get a kick out of people in Baton Rouge who complain about lack of parking.

Why? As a previous poster said, the norm for BR is a parking lot. If I know I have to go and worry about where I’m going to park, that will indeed be a negative aspect of the experience and may make me not want to go. If you can’t understand how this could be an issue in BR, then you’re not too bright. Perhaps the developers of the market thought like you and look where they are now.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought the plan for Government Street was to make sidewalks and more walkable & bike friendly. This would reduce some need for lots of parking.

Magazine Street seems to manage just fine with almost no parking.

If I’m coming from anywhere in BR, I still have to park somewhere regardless of whether or not there’s bike paths and sidewalks.

Government street already had sidewalks. All this project is gonna do is turn the one safe neighborhood in town without bad traffic into a complete clusterf$&k for motorists.

Lol - there wasn’t anywhere to sit when we went - so I held my 4 year old - choices and food were disappointing

Well you can't exactly park on the street and public transportation in the city is...not worth getting into

Yeah, you just park on the residential streets behind that run between Govt and Capital Heights.
Common practice for any place worth going to.

As previously noted, motorists can use North and Florida if they'd like. Government was never meant to be a thruway.

Have you ever left the suburbs? Park in the neighborhoods.

Have you ever been to an entertainment district of another city? The idea is to get motorists off Government St. Its not meant to be a highway. Not to mention the vast majority of the traffic on Govenerment currently comes from left turners with no left turn lane. The street is also very unsafe for left turning drivers who often can't see the far lane if the near lane is also backed up by a left turner going the opposite direction... The project is about making the area more visually appealing, safer, walking/biking friendly, all of which lead to more investment in the area. Sorry you wont be able to go 50 mph on 1 street in BR anymore.
