How do the 2 staggs compare?

'08 is woodier and has a drier finish, but sweeter (definitely a strong note of cherries) and with water it's phenomenal. I would guess it's older. The '14 is formidable though, rich and nutty. More caramelized sugar and smoother. Overall, I would take the 08 if given a choice but the 14 is a better value. Jr isn't bad but EHTBP is much better.

I like mine a little on the sweet side. 2 ounce whiskey, .5 ounce simple syrup, bout 4 dashes bitters, 2 maraschino cherries, orange slice if I have it. Iv yet to experiment much, I know lots on here have used orange bitters and other specialty bitters

I do 2 oz bourbon
1 tbs of simple syrup
1 tbs of water
3-4 dashes of bitters
1 thin slice of orange ( rub the rim of the glass with it before putting it in the drink)
For ice I use a big 2x2 in ice cube.

I do something very similar, but no water and I add more syrup, just eyeball it.

Dang BSBR sorry to hear about your pops. I must have missed that 1. Can't say I know what it's like but time eases pain along with some good bourbon used to remember the good times. God bless you and your family.

I've been gone a while but I see this thread was left in good hands....1500+ pages!!! God bless you liquor aficionados

also, I've been tearing up Buffalo Trace as my daily drinker but will probably get something a little more exquisite this weekend.

I love me some Blantons. And you're right, it's wayyyy easier to spend $45, instead of $100.

For those who have had Jefferson 18, just how much better does it taste over something like Blantons?

Paging Dr. Beardface

It's pretty entertaining to read the first several pages of this and remember the days when you could just walk into almost any higher end liquor store and get this stuff easily.

Unc, how does $100 for a JPS 18 sound now?

filter out that barrel char or just drink it?

i always run the last pour of Handy or Stagg through a coffee filter as it's usually pretty dirty

You nancy...just swirl the bottle before you pour and enjoy the char like a man.

The best OF i have ever made and the only way I make it now is with this stuff. I get a martini mixer and add 1.5oz of the mix, 6oz of your booze of choice (I really like baby saz for it) 12 dashes of bitters. Add ice and shake...then pour over fresh ice (or a ice ball) in a cup, Fits perfect in a yeti 10oz'er with a iceball.

I said what the hell and just drank it. There really wasn't too much char - I feel like my WLW and GTS have way more.
