The official SMS first annual bourbon bracket has concluded. I will be providing the results over the next few days/week.
Let me remind everyone of the rules:
Each selection had to be bourbon <$100 aftermarket
Each selection was given a number ahead of the bracket. All I was given by Mrs. SMS was the 2 numbers that were competing. I didn't receive the names until the end.
Games were played head-to-head with the scoring below.
Taste: The intensity of the taste. 40 pts possible
Finish: The quality of the finish. 30 pts possible
Complexity: How complex was the flavor: 20 pts possible
Nose: Different aromas. 10 pts possible.
WLW 12 - 76
Breckenridge - 57
Henry Duyours - 69
Cyprus Noble - 59
I gave Cyprus Noble an 81 in the first round. Mrs. SMS must have laced it with with Meth in the first round.
Colorado Gold - 63
Russels Reserve Single Barrel - 57
Blantons: 71
1792 Small Batch: 58

I actually got a bottle of RHF in BR yesterday.
Thats a great find assuming it was at/ close to msrp. I saw a bottle today (Houston) next to a bottle of EHTBP but both were marked up too much for me. $80 for the RHF and $130 for the EHT.
Found this though and thought it was worth picking up even though it's just plain ole JD

The RHF was $46.99 which is cheaper than my friend in California can get for me. I think he pays $53 out there plus the cost of shipping. There was some EHT BP around BR about 4-6 weeks ago. I paid about $70 per bottle on the 2 that I picked up.

EC or Weller?
May know where a couple of EC12 handles are. Haven't been there in a few weeks but last time they had 3+ on the shelf.

If anyone is desperate for ECBP they have 16 of them at Dorignac's for $80/per.

I've had some luck with some area Walgreens. Seems people down here forget some of them have liquor stores.

Howdy all. I've been reading through the pages for the last few months. Getting edumacated. Thought I jump in to the shallow end for starts. I don't know all the lingo yet(like 1PD or 2PD or and such???) Just started venturing out into the bourbon world back in May, but I've been on an accelerated program due to this thread. One catches up pretty quickly with all the generous expertise in the room here (and love the pics). Well enough arse kissing.
Started off with Woodford Reserve(a fav) and was sold from the start. Since I've bought bottles of Bulleit, Bulleit 10yr, Beam SB, 4RSB, and just recently a Texas brand called 1835. Liked them all but the Beam. Couple nights ago Mrs TS and I were out and had a pour of EHT and EC (completely forgot to check what kind of each but I'd expect not the elite.) Those 2 were the best I have had to date. Tried them neat at first and then added couple of rocks to see some difference. I'm going to pick up a bottle of each. I like a good deal, a good value if you will and that 1835 is only $21 (750ml ) at Specs here in Houston. Tough to beat as it makes a great old fashioned and isn't bad at all on its own. Might come across a little too sweet with the vanilla and caramel compared to its more expensive brethren. My budget right now is <$50 per bottle (750ml). Have no idea how much EHT or EC will cost, but to damn with the budget.
Know this first one was a lil long winded. Appreciate the time fellas. I'm here for good. Shoot, might have to change my name to BourbonSinger one day.

Tex the EHT is probably small batch (SmB) which would be 35-40 bucks. The EC is probably small batch or 12 year and should be priced under 30 bucks.
A few more in that range that are popular picks will be Eagle Rare and buffalo trace.

Welcome Slinger
This is probably the EC you had (good excuse for me to have one now!)
It's a 12 year, for a short time longer. The 12 year age statement used to be on the front of the bottle where the barrel is...then they moved it to the back in fine print. Both were still the same juice.
Now, bottles are surfacing with no age statement at all, making it younger juice (probably 8-10 yrs)...so stock up on what 12's you can find.
It's a great value pour, along with Eagle Rare (but make sure it says 10 yr on the back of the bottle...same situation here, they're running out of older juice.)
1PD/2PD is just which pour of the day we're on. Feel free to ask questions, lots of helpful advice around here.
