General Update:
I posted a while back in the since anchored thread about my "NCAA tournament of bourbon". I picked out 64 bourbons from the stash and created a bracket. The bracket was unseeded and all the bourbons needed to be <$100 (or so on the secondary market). No ryes or barrel strengths were included (additional brackets for those to come). All tastings are completely blind with Mrs. SMS pouring them.
We had a bit of a hiccup after about 8 games where Mrs. SMS decided to be nice and remove the numbers from the losers and restock them in the stash. However, since no one knew which numbers went with each, I had to start over. Oh the humanity.
I assigned the following so the numbers come to what kinda looks like a basketball score:
Taste: 40 points
Finish: 30 points
Complexity: 20 points
Nose: 10 points
Things learned:
Mrs. SMS needs to be lighter on her pours our my liver won't make it. 127 pours is a lot.
There is incredible differences between bourbons and tasting them blind and side by side really brings that home.
There are some truly terrible bourbons out there.
Low score: 16 (if that isn't LA1 I will be extremely surprised)
There are some excellent bourbons out there for <$100
High score: 79
I am going to try and convince the BSoBR guys to let me post the first round results on the BSoBR web page but being that I am only 9 "games" into the first round of 32 that might be a few weeks.
More updates to come.

I have a bottle of ETL and OWA I would like to trade away for a single. Anyone interested?

I look forward to you posting the results if you decide to. One thing I've learned so far is that a large portion of this bourbon craze is marketing. I've had my fair share of hard to find and premium bourbons and while they are delicious I still enjoy a pour of wild turkey 101 all day every day.

That's EHT Single barrel for me...with a few exceptions like Cured oak, tornado, pappy 20 and VW Rye.
It's a superb Bourbon that would be my bracket buster if I did the blind challenge I think.

Yeah.. I look forward to getting my snooty bourbon aficionado image tarnished when I rate Evan Williams Green above Blantons or something equally crazy...
I am sure I will get ridiculed for some of my choices.
But I like what I like.

I am going to guess that I will rate SAOS both 7 and 10 higher than most.
BTW: Here is the bracket picture.

This is potentially the most exciting thing I've ever seen in bourbon.

I am out of town right now but will be back in town on Sunday. If you are trying to get rid of your extra let me know.
