Sorry...had to come back to this quote.

It’s pretty pathetic that you’re hoping other whiskey that YOU haven’t sipped isn’t good...

I think all of us root for ALL of our pours to be great...I mean no one here hopes the 1/4 PVW 20 bottle you have bragged about on 4 different occasions tastes like shite (after all, it isn’t Stitzel-Weller, the main reason Pappy is relevant) but I bet it’s still pretty good

I’m with you...LOTS of sub-$50 bottles are really good right now.

I hope your Pappy 20 is delicious, as well as all of the bottles you grab...all are welcome here...just don’t shite on other pours without actually tasting them

I think he just meant he hopes the bourbon hype is cooling if people's perception of the rare bottles are dropping a bit.

Exactly what I meant. I’m not hoping that the Pappy’s are bad this year.

Oh, and BTW, the quarter bottle of 20 given to me is Stitzel-Weller, it’s from 2011.

I got this bottle in lieu of a $ 200 debt (actually a little over that). Old Van Winkle 10. Had someone on the board say they wanted to buy it so I did not list it in the BSM. I will list it right after Christmas. I am looking for $350 in Dallas. or the same + shipping elsewhere before my listing in BSM at a higher amount. Anyone interested, let me know. Prefer to sell it to a TD member.

Ran across a couple of Thomas handys on shelf for 299 last night. When will this madness end? Side note has anyone seen old Ezra 7 around la or Texas? I really like old forester 1920 but I keep hearing the 1910 is a let down - was going to grab one on the way home today but may reconsider based on the reviews.

I find they like to always say this years so n so is not as good as last year so not worth as much. Then as soon as the next years drop....boom the old shite starts to taste more rayer

I could have got more Oban, I’ll see if I still can for the ones that emailed me. I just remember seeing 1 or 2 looking in here. I have the 2 already held for the first ones that hit me up first.

Dorginacs had Old Ezra last time I popped in there just to check out some prices/bottles. Not sure how fairly priced it is.

I don’t think the crazy demand Is going anywhere.... I’m guessing distilleries started increasing production when the boom started but I really have no idea. Even if they did it will still take years for it to be shelf ready

They increased production but that is only to capitalize on the cool story and sticker movement IMO.

In that case,

And my bad on the S-W judgement, I forgot you had an old bottle...

Also ETA: I shouldn’t hypocritically jump to conclusions on non-S-W juice, so asking forgiveness there as well

Both times I took the Hard Hat Tour at BT they were distilling their Wheat Recipe AKA Pappy. This was in the last 4 years, I guess the supply of Weller, Weller 12 and the younger Van Winkles will rise. I guess it depends on how they age, cause the Van Winkles taste and decide which barrels go into, the blend. To me logic dictates that demand is so high some distillers will cut corners and start bottling sub standard juice in order to try and meet demand. I do not think BT will but others will. Especially the companies that dont make shite but just buy sourced juice. Just look at all the different Jeffersons. With a shitload of marketing, barrel finishes, aged at sea, and chefs collaborations.

This is exactly what’s going to happen with some of the high end stuff like Kentucky Owl IMO. I don’t blame the owners for selling or the big companies for buying. After all this is a business, a booming one at that. I just think that we are going to see more of a trend of high priced whiskey that just isn’t worth the $. The sweet spot is finding the really good $30-$75 pours. Lots of folks out there thinking price equates to top notch juice and that just isn’t so.

Seems like for the most part you can get some top quality stuff in that price range... IMO for sub $30 that McKenna 10 is a steal. I’ve had pappy 20, and 23 and while they’re both incredibly good, I probably don’t get much more enjoyment out of them than some stuff I’ve paid 50-75 for.

Bingo. I have an old bottle of W12 that I absolutely love. It gets better the longer it sits. I think I paid $32 for it. I also love some WLW that I paid $140 for. Is it $100 more enjoyable of a pour? Nah. It’s hard to not get caught up in all the hype around limited releases these days but there some good, readily available pours out there that won’t break the bank.

What's the MSRP supposed to be on the Belle Meade single barrrel? I've seen it in the wild, but for $100. I think should be around 75 but not sure.

I’ve seen it in Texas for $65. Now the reserve cask strength goes for around $100 I believe. The bottle I posted is the single barrel cask strength.

Hocus Pokus has a couple different Belle Meades on the shelf. I do not remember what ones they had tho. Maybe give them a call.
