Thanks for the tip. And I'll try that dickel rye. Thought I saw someone say Willett 2 year rye makes a good Manhattan, too.

False.
We can all admit to LA-1 being disgusting. There is nothing redeeming about that whiskey. Whatever you do, steer clear of that shite.
Fine... I revised my post...
Welcome TigerNE. There are so many great bourbons for you to try. Try everything (including LA1 so you can know what terrible whiskey tastes like). Don't let other people tell you what to like (you will dislike LA1 on your own so don't listen to others hatred but form your own hatred). Don't be afraid to like something others don't (except for LA1. That stuff tastes like dirt). There aren't any right answers (except for the fact that LA1 is terrible).

Yes it really is unfortunately. Some of us BSOBR people do tastings and we all bring bottles and samples. The person who brings the best gets to take the samples home. The person with the worst bottle has to do a shot of LA1.

Been a little while since these have been posted, we might have some new people that haven't seen them before

I have a open bottle i can send you a sample if ya want. I had it at the first raffle safety meeting and remember thinking it was ok. Then I opened my bottle and may not. Its been a while since I tried it again...but it doesnt seem to get much love.

Buffalo Trace Distillery Experimental Whiskey: Successes and Failures
quote:
They have ramped up their experiments over the last several years big time. In August 2012 they reported 1,500 experiments. In July 2015 they reported doubling their experiments to some 3,000. Today, they are reporting over 5,000 experiments, a 233% increase in just three years. This sounds like a lot but, at their scale it’s about 1.7% of the 300,000 barrels they have quietly aging in warehouses.
quote:
1)Buffalo Trace Declares Small Barrel Experiment a Failure
Buffalo Trace started experimenting with small barrels 10 years ago in 2006. They used 5, 10, and 15 gallon barrels each filled with the same mash bill (Buffalo Trace Rye Bourbon Mash #1) around the same time, and aged them side by side in a warehouse for six years. They said the results were less than stellar. Even though the barrels did age quickly, and picked up the deep color and smokiness from the char and wood, each bourbon yielded less wood sugars than typical from a 53 gallon barrel, resulting in no depth of flavor. The actual bourbon from these tests was never released to the public.

I paid 4 dollars to try a glass of it. If they want me to have another drink of it, they can pay me 40 dollars. I'd take that 40 and go get dat pikesville.

BT is experimenting whiskey with natty light. I'm pretty sure that's what my brain is taking from this.
