The barrels were distilled in the spring and fall of 1989 and stored on the lower levels of a metal clad warehouse built in 1935 at the Van Winkle family distillery in Shively, Ky.

In 2002 the barrels were moved to Buffalo Trace Distillery, where they continued to age for another 12 years on the lower floors in Buffalo Trace’s brick warehouses. The lower floor placement helped preserve the sweet, mellow notes of the world-famous wheated bourbon recipe. In 2014 the Buffalo Trace team moved the barrels into stainless steel tanks to halt the aging process and preserve the rich flavor profile fans have come to expect from the Van Winkle line.

So I'm in Lafayette for a couple nights, where could I go for a good selection of whiskey? Just want to see if they have anything over here I can't get a few hours down the road.

You mean restaurants or liquor stores?

For restaurants: Social has a lot of good stuff in the cabinet, maybe your best bet in town...damn good old fashioneds there too. Ruffino's is decent. Tap Room has actually upped their selection a good bit too.

If liquor store, Marcello's has a nice spread and should have a Buffalo Trace store pick.

I have always found Lafayette better for finding beautiful Cajun girls than whiskey. With that stated, Social was impressive.

West Cork is pretty new only been around a couple of years. The Powers John Lane 12, IMO is the best Irish Whiskey there is. Cannot get it in Louisiana. Have to go out of state or online. It is a single pot still release of Powers whisky. It's matured in a combination of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks.
