Dickel white label on the rocks here.

I did have a very nice drink earlier this week at a restaurant at the recommendation of the waiter. A Jim Beam signature with Spanish Brandy

He's got 3 20yr bottles in his collection, but I've been waiting on the 23 yr. 5 long years of waiting.

I've had the 20 yr a few times. The 23yr bottle wasn't even open. I wouldn't want to make him open the bottle to give me a taste. Been waiting for him to open it up

Dat Lot fohty old fashioned

I can't remember who pointed me towards busters in Memphis but I appreciate it. Nice place. I know none of this is rare but the saz is hard to come by and expensive in AL and the McKenna is non existent. Also I got this store pick Knob Creek 120 from the Costco in Germantown for $35.

Then I had a buddy visiting in Atlanta pick these up for me. Neither are available at ABC stores in AL. I'm pretty pumped about my little weekend haul.

Round One of the inaugural SMS Bourbon Tournament has concluded.

Mrs. SMS allowed me to see the losers but not the winners.

It has been an excellent experience. Rating whiskey blind without any preconceived ideas has been interesting. There are some truly wonderful whiskeys out there as well as some absolutely terrible ones.

A reminder on the scoring.
Taste: 40 points possible
Finish: 30 points possible
Complexity: 20 points possible
Nose: 10 points possible.

Average winning score: 65-79

Overall high score from round 1: 79
Overall low score from round 1: 16

Note the lack of LA1. It unbelievably made it to round 2. I had one "game" where both the whiskeys were terrible. The lowest 2 scores in the entire round were in one game. Final score: 34-16. 16 was Jim Beam Quarter Cask. I would image that 34 is LA1, but I don't know yet.

North Bracket Losers

West Bracket Losers

South Bracket Losers

East Bracket Losers

Honorable Mention: High scorers that lost anyway.

Notable Losers:
EHT Single Barrel: 60
EHT Small Batch: 53 (Ouch)
RHF: 59

More to come.

No 4R in the competition. Barrel Proof not allowed by rule so that removes most of my store pics. There will be a barrel proof tournament at some point. 4RLeSb failed on the aftermarket price <$100. I didn't enter standard yellow label because well, I don't have any.

Surprise of the tournament for me:

1. LA1 making it obviously.
2. All 3 1792s making it. Didn't think I liked them that much.
3. Both EHTs going down.
4. Michters Boubon losing. I like that stuff.
5. RHF losing.
