That's the thing. I know several "beer snobs" who 10 years ago would have called "wine snobs" a bunch of queers! They don't realize they are now JUST AS ANNOYING as the wine snobs they laughed at.

I don't particularly care what kind of beer others drink so long as I don't have to be ridiculed by some jerkoff who camped out at a grocery to pay $47.00 for a four pack of beer. If that's your thing, no problem. But you're a douche bag criticize someone for drinking a freaking Budweiser. It's beer for Christ-sakes!

Truthfully, I don't get what a beer snob is. I thought Portland would be the epicenter of beer snobbery, but beer isn't really a snobby drink. Beer bars are usually unpretentious and low key, just like the drink. People drink it and they talk about it, but, with a few exceptions, nobody really cares what anybody else drinks. I guess the ultimate beer snob is the person who drinks to show off, rather than just for their own enjoyment.

I thought about that. I drink mainly local beer. I have access to a lot of out-of-state stuff in my local bottle shops, but I tend to drink local beer from Oregon and beer that I get in trades with folks on this board. I know there are other great beers out there, and I have no problem drinking them, but I don't seek them out. If I'm buying a beer in a bottle shop, I start local, first.

I guess I probably qualify as a beer snob, and when I went through a transformation from Bud drinker to craft beer drinker. With Bud, the objective was to drink as many as I could and get drunk. And it was the same beer, every time. With craft beer, I am more about enjoying the beer, and the many different styles and different versions of those styles.

When I see a friend drinking Bud, I do encourage them to try something craft beer to see if they take to it the way I did. I have converted more than a few people. I suspect some people didn't appreciate it and thought of me as a beer snob. Often times I break the ice by telling them, "I am drinking this beer by Breakside. It's a fantastic local brewery. Have you tried any of their stuff?". People like supporting local companies, and are usually willing to try it. If they like that local brewer, they may branch out and try other local breweries. Other people may reject the idea of trying different beers, and that's OK. I'm not trying to be a snob about it and say my beer is better than yours...
