Amber is one of my fallback beers along with Shiner Bock - I wont order it at a good bar like the Pel, but when I just want a sixer to take home I'll swing by a gas station and pick one up. Haven't really bothered trying out their other brews though because if I'm looking for local beer, I'll take Tin Roof, Nola, Parish, or Covington any day of the week over them.

most people in la just dont have the pallet for west coast beers on a consistant basis because most people drinking lighter easier drinking beersm i,e abita amber. i slammed an ipa after cuttung the grass, but thats my pallet
Well im not most people and I crave IPA's and APA's more than anything. I have about a 12 pack of homebrew APA ready to go in the fridge sitting on the side of Stone Double Arrogant Oaked, Stone Levitation, Nola Mechahopzilla, and Envie. I just happen to disagree with you about Tin Roof. I think Voodoo Bengal is horrible and perfect ten is not better than Amber by a long shot. I much prefer Golden to Blonde as well. It's ok to disagree

Posted by LSUsaintsfanla their beers suck. amber is terrible. andygator is decent. purple haze taste like skittle beer and strawberry is made from strawberry juice and taste like rotten fruit roll ups. they are an embarrassment of louisiana and thank god we have better breweries now like parish nola tin roof and gnarly barley
Are you this stupid on purpose?

Well. Abita is pretty mediocre
And I know you drink Abita and like it and you're a huge strawberry homer, but I'm sure you'll admit that the other LA breweries generally produce one or two products that are superior to Abita's comparable brew.
Maybe calling them an embarrassment is a bit hyperbolic, but I'd support the statement that having them as the flagship brewery of the state is disappointing. I'd much prefer our flagship brewery be one that produces some real home run quality beers.

I'm not a strawberry homer.
I can drink one from time to time.
If you think Abita is mediocre that's cool, but mediocre is a long way from terrible and embarrassment.
Plus you gotta give it to them ....to be so bad they've managed to dominate every bar, restaurant, convenience store in Louisiana that serves cold beer.
I'm to the point where I honestly believe the Abita haters on this board get at butthurt when they go somewhere and see an Abita tap.

This is fair. That brewery is Parish.

I have notseen a single vote for Vanilla Doubledog. I really like that stuff.

These are the only ones I have drank and like in the last year:
Macchiato stout
Grapefruit IPA
Amber
Strawberry (don't think it's great but I can drink it)
Turbodog
Can't say I'm a fan besides those and don't drink those often.
Jockamo is the worst IPA I have ever drank. I think the only people that drink and like it are from here. I think Nola, Tin Roof, Parish, etc all have Abita beat in the IPA category. Grapefruit was descent though but haven't seen it anywhere lately. Will probably try spring IPA one day.

FWIW when I set up a beer trade, 9 out of 10 times they specifically ask for no abita.
It's popular around here, but generally disliked in most other areas of the country.

My fault. I felt pretty certain I had seen you defend strawberry against the people that think it sucks (I think it sucks, full disclosure).

You should talk to TigerWise, y'all could be buddies
I'll say the same thing to you I say to him, you have to respect Abita from a marketing and business standpoint. They legitimately print money. They are a top-15 brewery in the US in terms of volume. I just wish they would use some of the money and volume to make, bottle/can, and distribute some brews that are of a really high quality. It's clear they can do it, some of their selects lately have been pretty good. I've not had the Imperator yet but the Bourbon Street Stout was pretty good.

does it irk anyone else that that OP used "flavor" in the title of this thread?

Both of these will be bottled in addition to draft.

6 pages and only one mention of Oyster Stout By far their best beer. Hopefully they brew it this winter.

And this is why you will never be respected as a poster. You can't just state your opinion, you ALWAYS have to throw in your last remark as an insult. Just like in the FBD thread when you made some insulting remark about craft beer drinkers. and you do this on every board.
if I had a $1.00 every time you ended your post with , I'd be fricking rich.

I like a lot of the Abita brews but my current favorite is the Spring IPA. I wish it came in a can.
Posted on 5/27/14 at 10:49 am to TigerWise
Grapefruit IPA was the tits…sad they don't brew that anymore…I can dig Spring IPA too…I'd compare that to Tin Roof's Juke Joint…I also think Restoration Ale is a decent session beer which I will happily drink.
Abita Amber is no different than Parish's South Coast or NOLA Brown IMO…overall, a meh brewery but proud of them for making millions--to other posters point, it just sucks they are our flagship brewery.
