Weber for either gas or charcoal.

If you want to move into higher grill arts then maybe a ceramic cooker such as Big Green Egg, Kamado Joe, or Primo would be something to look into

Actually the Weber Summit Kamado is on par with any ceramic cooker and in a lot of ways a lot better than those.

What the hell do you need all that for?

Oddly enough I use it all. We have a lot of street/culdesac parties and shite like that.

But it was all so cheap, I couldn't pass it up.

That's not a grill, that's a tank.

If you want cooking to be easy, get a gas grill. Pretty easy to keep clean, easy to start, etc. Especially if you want to grill burgers, chicken, steaks, etc.

UNLESS, you want it to be easy and you plan to do more smoking and not so much grilling, then get a pellet grill. You may have to turn in your man card, but it didn't bother t00F that much, it probably won't be that bad for you, either.

If you want something versatile and want to learn to cook and are interested in the process of cooking - low and slow, two zone cooking, how to build and control a fire, etc, then get a Weber kettle or a kamado grill. A Weber Performer is a great option without that costs about what a low end gas grill would cost, but gives you a nice built in table and charcoal storage right in the grill.

I have an old country smoker and a Weber kettle. Old country when I want to work all day to get great meat and a Weber if I want to set and forget and still have solid meat.

In Arkansas I used a Walmart 3 burner grill used wood chips in a box to smoke steaks chuck roast and ribs.

But now we are moving to something permanent it Texas I want something nicer. I can dabble but not competition quality just what I like to eat and family enjoy.

So as stated a good grill that is presentable and quality

No chance those smokers have half inch steel. They’d weigh a literal ton or more.

Also, OP asks about a smoker and then only mentions grills.

Well because I used my cheap gas grill like a smoker with 3 burners I could go indirect heat using only one burner.
I grilled on it also

I love mine. Would never go ceramic. The Weber is light weight, easy to move, and works fantastic for grilling and does a good job smoking.

Would like a stick burner though.

Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050. All the ease of a pellet grill, but it uses charcoal so you still get the charcoal grill taste. I’ve done a brisket, 3 pork butts at once, chicken quarters, burgers, and even steaks at 700 degrees. All turned out fantastic.

ETA: Bought it at Ace Hardware

I really liked this one at lowes as it is bigger than one had in Arkansas and is easy peasy gas

Char-Broil Performance Series Silver 5-Burner Liquid Propane Gas Grill with 1 Side Burner

This was on sale for 325 at Lowes in the new town

If those are your options what are the pros cons of each?

Big Green Egg or Kamado Joe hands down. If you’re looking for charcoal. Ceramic grills are always a winner.

I was thinking about the versatility aspect I guess. My gut tells me he grills more than smokes and wants the option to smoke. A kettle or Kamado does great at two zone cooking, smoking, pizza, you name it.
