I know every time a stiff wind blows, the price of crawfish goes up, but what is it looking like this year? Last year, prices were really good. I believe when i started boiling in March, i paid $2.50/lb live, and by the time the end of the season, my last boil i paid around $1.75/lb. Looking at the crawfish app, cheapest right now is $5.25/lb live. I assume the prices will fall come march, but starting at 5.25, i don't see how they are lower than $3.75/$4. And i just read an article about crawfish farmers seeking government relief which may be another nail in the coffin for cheap crawfish like last year.

Anyone in the know got any information about what we can expect for prices in the spring?

Spring time?
$1.80-$2.25/lb for larger ones
$1.30 for peelers

Same here. It was nice to just sit around and figure out what we were going to do for dinner and say, "why don't i just boil some crawfish?". $60-75 for 30-50 lbs. of crawfish was pretty awesome.

Yes demand will be down for sure. Local schools and clubs boil hundreds of thousands of pounds each spring for their festival and fundraisers.
On the flip side, if prices get too low after Easter, less guys will go run their traps if it's not worth it price wise for them.

The price will be whatever people are willing to pay. Every year its some bull shite about how it was too cold, not enough rain, too warm, covid, etc. Prices went high when we had 4 dollar gas several years ago, which was very understandable. But when gas prices went down, they saw people were still willing to pay that price so it never came back down.

Initially the price will stay high as they try to recoup money from last spring, but i wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't go under 2 dollars/lb this year.

and its not really the farmer's fault, the supplier is the one screwing you.

Last year the catch was good in Jan and Feb, this year so far it hasn't been / plus most people are just starting to fish this week so the supply is really low
By the end of the month you will see the prices start to drop. Boiled restaurant prices are usually 2.5-3x what buyers are paying at the farm

The farm price was under $2 by Mardi Gras last year which never happens and when Covid it it dropped to $1/pound

I'd bet wholesale will be between $1.75-$2.25 during lent then get down to $1-$1.25 after lent which happens every year

With Mardi Gras early this year, I'm optimistic the prices will drop in these ranges by mid spring.

So jealous of you guys and gals in LA. $2.75/lb live is a decent price here in central MS
