Not only do they mark up the cost of the food when ordering through their app (vs. the advertised menu price from the restaurant), they also charge an inflated delivery fee.

Well from the topic this thread is about, it doesn't sound like they mark up the cost of the food. The restaurant is doing that to offset their costs (understandably).

Beyond that, I don't know why you wouldn't expect a delivery fee. It is a business that has to make a profit. Pizza delivery is $3.95. Waitr is $5.

I think the restaurants have a legit gripe here if Waitr is increasing their % they take out + no longer allowing increased menu prices. Customers, however, complaining that it costs a premium to get restaurant food delivered are silly. And I say that as someone who rarely orders Waitr due to the cost.

Agree. You should definitely expect a fee. Thats the whole point.

I dont understand how they arent making money. Even if they just collected the $5 delivery fee. I mean all they really do is provide the app and pay the drivers. They dont pay for the food or any of the restaurants costs. After that and charging the establishment a percentage they cant turn a profit?

Companies try to turn profits. Companies that are sold to investors do everything in their power to make more profits than the year before. That's called corporate greed and it almost always makes the company/product shitty

This isn't really true, particularly in the tech industry.

I’ve never used it. Sounds like small restaurants may have trouble staying in.

I started a thread on the OT for this and I've been dealing with it. They are moving restaurants to a sliding scale based on sales. The percentage is taken on the "after tax" price and not the "pre tax" price. They are also passing on credit card fees to the restaurants. They originally did not allow you to raise the prices and pass the costs on to the customer. We were able to do it because we did it to all to go orders and did not put Wait at a competitive disadvantage with other DPS.

This seems like horse shite. They are doing the transaction so should pay the fee.

Group ordering is another problem with all of the Delivery App services as well. Large orders coming in to a restaurant can put stress on a kitchen that could cause longer ticket times for dine in customers, resulting in weaker tips.

Why should the driver who is only delivering the $300+ order not have to share any tips with the restaurant.
