What dish do you have or make that's not the normal? Or do you put a spin on a normal dish?

I've made shrimp mirliton dressing in the past using Breaux Mart's recipe you can find online. I personally don't care for mirliton, but others liked it.

The Friends Thanksgiving thread was a good thought, but the subject got the thread hijacked.

We have them every single year. Mirlitons stuffed with crawfish, andouille, and cornbread. That's the only mirliton I eat for the year.

I'm sure most people in South LA have oyster dressing. My grand parents, parents, aunts, uncles have always used rice instead of french bread to make it. I guess that's a little different?

They’re awesome. Started doing them a few years ago to replace mashed potatoes.

Potatoes look legit.

I use 1 heaping Tbsp flour/oil roux per can of peas.
Cook roux to medium, not light a blonde roux for a corn soup, not dark as a gumbo roux.
Pour in can(s) of peas, plus 1/2 can water per can of peas.
Bring to a boil, simmer until however think you want it, stirring even once in a while to smash some of the peas
Add boiled eggs when gravy thickens.
My mom would crack her eggs in the simmering liquid and let the eggs cook like that.
I’m 72 and have never perfected that technique.
It’s more than just a boiled egg, it’s when the egg yolk and white roux gravy mix together.

I don’t think I’d eat the peas, but glad you shared it. Learning something new.

We usually do a whole beef tenderloin or ribeyes. Turkey is overrated IMO.

Caramel apples. Make them for the kids, and the adults like them too.

Pork roast rice & gravy.

I usually fill my belly with that and cornbread dressing. End up not eating much turkey.

We also ate that for lent growing up.

We do roux peas for Thanksgiving, no eggs though.

My SIL always makes rice dressing with chicken. Kinda like chicken and rice but darker and she puts liver in it.
