What kind of dried beans do you use for your redbeans and rice?

I've always used Bluerunner Creole style canned beans, they're good but they are getting expensive around here.
I want to start using dried beans instead.

I thought everyone used Camelia. Didn’t even know there was another option.

I certainly hear people swear by Camelia brand. I don't make it that often from dried beans and I've just grabbed whatever.

Great Northern beans (not “red” beans, but I prefer them to pintos or kidneys).

Camellia Red Kidney
Sure he shouldn't use green beans for his red beans? Maybe sub black eyed peas?

Dark, or light red?

I just looked at the Bluerunner can, it says they use light red kidney beans.
That's what I will go with in the future.

You actually use can beans to make red beans and rice? I use camelia and at the end of cooking I add a small can of blue runner to make them creamy

Last couple times I used store brand dry red kidney beans but most of the time I use Blue Runner or Camelia dry red beans, basically whatever is cheapest.

This. I think Rouses may have a store brand as well. They all turn out the same.

My recipe has been 2 24 oz. cans of Bluerunner Creole style beans,( 1 pound smoked sausage, 1 pound chopped smoked bacon, 1 pound ground beef all browned together and drained.) 2 diced onions and bell peppers and some Knorr chicken boullion, all together to cook in the crockpot.
Mahatma gold rice.

Camellia…but I also like black eyed peas as well

Camelia red kidney
But that's more just tradition, I doubt there's much difference between brands of dried beans. Just rinse them first.

I can absolutely distinguish between camellia and non-camellia. Most people wouldn’t be able to but there is a difference. Do not underestimate the power of terroir.

Whatever is in the Camellia or Bluerunner bag. You're overthinking this.
