Pinkerton's isn't "East texas" bbq. It's very much Central Texas. Grant is going to get a good laugh at that comment.

There’s an underground BBQ joint called Marty’s Meats. They have a laid back lounge attached to it, but I can’t remember the name — something about Luchadors.

A couple guys in this thread may be able to get you access and I think the guy that runs it has posted here. He can be a smug a-hole and stingy with his meats, but it’ll put your arse in the jackpot.

Totally agree. Roegels is amazing. Some joints in the city offer some new twists but for traditional TX BBQ items it's hard to beat. Not east TX style either.

Have eaten at most of the joints mentioned except for Blood Bros and Feges. Haven't eaten at Tejas either.

Would also throw Brett's in Katy in the mix. He's a Mieller type. Hole in the wall but he's doing it right.

Check out the new map with reviews from Tales From the Pit podcast. I really enjoyed Roegel’s, Truth Houston was good, have heard the Brenham location is better.

I ate at Brenham about 4-5 times before the one on Washington opened up (made a point to stop every time I headed to/from Austin). In the beginning, I was disappointed with the Houston location and felt it wasn't as good as Brenham.

Particularly, the collard greens side was tasteless compared to what I got at Brenham. Well, as time went on, I felt the meat got better at Houston and same as Brenham now, but they removed the collards from the menu and replaced with sprouts.

ah yeah forgot the Katy places. Brett's and Daddy Duncans also have legit BBQ. Brett's is expanding into a bigger space, and DD supposed to be working on a Brick & Mortar location.

Yeah the whole restaurant and setup is a nod to central Texas even before talking about the food.

Truth brisket really can’t be beat. I prefer Pinkerton’s for pretty much everything else, especially pork, and definitely just a better atmosphere overall.

the new Texas Monthly BBQ List, 2021 Edition

Truth lands the #3 spot. They rank the Top 10, then just list the other places 11-50 in order by location without ranking them.

Other Houston area spots in the top 50:
Feges
Brett's
Corkscrew
Blood Bros
Tejas Chocolate
Killens

Pinkertons is on the list, but for the San Antonio location.

Truth is building out a full bar, which is one thing Pinkerton's has now for a better atmoshphere.

Any of you baws tried Pipers? I have it on the same tier with Gatlins, pretty good but not Pinkertons / Truth level.

Corkscrew, Blood Bros, and Truth are my favorite three, but I go to Pit Room the most out of convenience.

actually tried for first time last week. I agree with your assessment. Got a 2 meat with moist brisket and ribs. I enjoyed the brisket, but didn't like the ribs at all. The black beans side was really tasty. Really good value, considering the present day food prices. 2 meat platter with 2 sides, was like $17.50

Had Feges a few weeks ago. Great cue, but I'd have to think there are better.

I went once and found it very ordinary. Like Rudy's level.

There is no way Piper's is going to stay in business. I pass it multiple times a day, and it's completely empty pretty much every time I pass it. I'll check it out though.

I have no idea how Burger Joint and Taco Stand solicits the crowds that they do; they're fine but nothing special.

Awful...toughest lengua I've ever had.

I'd rather walk across the street to Velvet taco for some weird Indian fusion shite they are slinging.

Yes, I noticed this too. It was a Tuesday at 12:15pm and my friend and I were the only ones there.

The lack of parking is a killer in that area. There might be less than 5 spots in their lot.
