bad location. Not many people knew it was even there

The location was definitely a problem. I was so depressed when it closed.

Dreamland in Baton Rouge was just awful. The ribs were tough and the beans tasted like pork and beans straight out of the can. They opened one here in Montgomery, but I haven't tried it yet. People over here swear by the original one in Tusaloosa(sp).

The ribs got a lot better after they were open for the first month or so but no it was never as good as the original. Never had the beans though.

I like it. I would say it is just about fast food. Burgers are good and so is the grilled chicken. Not a fan of the pork and haven't had anything else. Love the mojo sauce and Mr. Pibb.

It was in a bad spot plus I think a lot of people are locked into TJ Ribs when they go out for BBQ, plus those who had heard of it equate it to Bama which isn't exactly a great way to endear yourself to Baton Rouge.

Gotcha. I figured that might have been part of the problem.

VooDoo is C+, OK for people who think its BBQ, but even BR has several better. The best part of the place is that you don't have to worry about consuming too many calories, serving size borders on ridiculous.

Since someone mentioned Dreamland, I had been to Tuscaloosa location several times, really looked forward to having it here. It was sooooo bad, the ribs were so dried out and tough, they were inedible. I don't think the Bama tie in hurt them nearly as bad as the food. I went once, gave it 60 days went back, it was worse. It closed shortly thereafter.

You do realize that this isnt the only thing that falls in the category of BBQ right?

wow, really? i had no idea.

i was obviously being a little extreme with the butt reference.

you'ld be surprised by how many people think that putting a burger on a grill is bbqing.

I hear ya man. I was just saying it is way more satisfying to have a BBQ at the house with friends, alc, and some good weather. Like I said earlier Im not a HUGE BBQ person so unless I can have those three things with my BBQ, Ill just grab something else to eat.

Ribs 5-6 hours
Chicken 4 hours
Brisket 12-16 hours
Pork 10-15 hours

I think he was trying to say that there is no such thing as quick BBQ.

At least good quick bbq that is.

I was invited to a BBQ a couple of weekends ago..

A Hamburger and Hotdog BBQ.

I guess the term Cookout sounds too yankee to some.

True and this is prolly the appeal to people who could eat BBQ every meal. But this is also the reason why Id rather do it at the house. I can do a LOT of drinking in six hours.

I never go to VooDoo.. I think I've had it once. But I love BBQ and I didn't find theirs terrible.

I generally eat brisket or pulled pork when I eat BBQ. I like them both on sandwiches.

Also, the VooDoo in Denham isn't that much farther from me than Hi Ho and I know tons of people here hate on Hi Ho, but I like their pulled pork or beef just as much as anywhere else and I can get a whole meal for $5.50. Pulled pork is one of my favorite foods.. I'm not picky about it.

I do want to try Pimanyoli's. I hear great things.

as far as calling a get together a bbq, i kinda understand that, because what else do you call it? cookout sounds dumb, even to this yankee. invite me to your bbq, just dont tell me you're bbqing and serve me a cheeseburger. am i making any sense what so ever?
