Occasionally I'll shoot for the OT Lounge and hit the Soccer Board. Usually I correct my mistake quick enough to not contract HIV but this time my eye was caught by a thread with the same title as this one. Worse comes to worse, if I can live half as long as Magic Johnson I'll be ok. But I digress.. From what I can tell in that thread, save a couple of posters, the consensus is that it is NOT the USA who produces, over all, the best beer. I thought the US was the clear beer mecca since the craft beer boom decades ago. Am I wrong? What says the FDB?

You are correct. However, people will try to sound sophisticated and act like the US is crap. Those soccer thread posters think they sound traveled by denouncing the beer in the US

The US, easily

Belgium has some of the best and most sought after breweries in the world, but as a whole, the US wins hands down

If it was USA vs. the World, I'd still take the USA in this debate, but it would be arguable.

USA vs. any other single country isn't a fair competition.

I guess you can say the U.S.A., but don't let that blind you to the fact that the popularity of certain "tastes" that are prevalent here can be detrimental. I think the dominant beer paradigm in the U.S.A. is suffering from a hops burnout.

Anything made by Brewdog crushes American craft beer. Punk IPA is the one seed and it's not even close. Luckily they just opened a brewery in Columbus.

That's the most posts I have ever read on the soccer board.

And the answer is what we all know it is.

The craft beer boom put the US on top, and it's not really even close if you're talking about the highest rated and most sought after beers. Belgium is a solid second.

NO! Not at all! We recently had a German guy who came and worked here for awhile and took him out to a bar that has Louisiana beer night. Him being German we wanted to know what he thought of the beer so we basically let him try everything we could nola, abita, great raft, tin roof and the list went on. He said what he had just that night JUST FROM LOUISIANA put Germany to shame. He said most other countries have a few styles of beer they do well and you get that over and over. But here he was able to taste every style under the sun and each really well done! I gotta think if just the Louisiana selection at a pretty small bar can beat Germany according to a GERMAN... the US has to be at the top.

The US produces both the best and worst beer on the planet. But Belgium for being such a small country, isn't far behind and better in some ways.
