I'm making chili for a chili contest at work, mine will be a standard beef/onion/pepper/bean etc. chili but I want to add a beer to it, I'm thinking about a Shiner Bock. Any other beer suggestions?

Any kind of Amber/Bock. Shiner would work great.

It would be tough for me to waste a reve for a chili.

Never done it, but I feel like Guinness could work well

Bud. Thinking about using a Mexican beer like Tecate or Victoria.

Modelo Negro
Thats what I used last time. Imo, there is no way I could tell the difference between this and a Guinness. I honestly probably wouldnt be able to tell a difference between Shiner and Modelo Negra either....

Generally, whatever beer that keeps getting passed over in the fridge and has been there a while (with exceptions of course).

Another vote for Shiner, or Modelo Negro.

I go with a pretty high ABV stout or porter. I'll typically get a 22-25oz bottle and drink half and add the other half to the chili. I've tried lower abv beers and pale to amber beers, and it doesn't work for my tastes.

I use old malty ipas I find at the “mix 6” singles rack at the grocery store. I really like the taste and I feel like I give the beer a second chance at life. Win win.
