I find we always try to get too "cute" with food and my wife and I will forget basic shite like chicken parmasean or turkey pot pie.

We regularly make the following basic dinners and want to mix it up but everything on the internet seems like it's trying too hard. Interpret it however you'd like just toss out some dinner ideas.

Tacos/fajitas
Lamb/beef kabob w rice and humus dish
Tenderloin
Baked chicken and vegetables
Basic arse salad
Spinach enchiladas
Steak and stuff that goes with steak

We forget how good sandwich night can be. Or things like pork chops. It's hard to make a shopping list right now.

Pasta dishes, egg dishes, seafood, soups, beans.

a nice egg dish/frittata with spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, a good salad and a good bottle of sparkling wine is a nice light meal when it's hot. Like fricking today the 17th of January.

We do a lot of different chicken, whole roasted, pounded breast just sautéed with a bit of lemon, etc...

Kids want a roast beef with rice and gravy once every two weeks.

Wife loves the little thin pork chops that our mothers cooked to death because of trichinosis with baked apples and butterbeans. I cook the frenched pork loins which are cheap but good.

Grilled salmon.....grill enough to eat for 3 days. Make salmon tacos, salmon burgers or smoked salmon pasta with the leftovers.

Falafel wraps w/ home made baba ganoush

Kimchi fried rice w/ roasted Brussels sprouts and shrimp.

pasta primevera

New Mexico style stacked veggie enchiladas (red and/or green sauce).

Lentil crispy tacos

Veggie tacos (port. mushrooms, zucchini, onion, carrot) w/ a ginger and lime aioli.

Winter time I'll add:
Pinto Beans & Rice
Veggie Chili
Veggie/ green chili Pasoloe
Veggie soup

I find we end up cooking more of what the kids will enjoy than getting cute with our cooking these days. Boxed pastas are great. Anything from Mac n cheese, Hamburger Helper Stroganoff, and some of those Lipton chicken flavored noodles. Makes a great side for just about anything.

Rice is another staple. You can dress it up with a gravy or put a piece of fish and sauce on top for the adults and serve plain for the kids.

I try to keep certain things in the freezer for quick after work meals like gumbo, chili, spaghetti sauce/meatballs/red gravy, lasagna, veg soup and other various soups...

I'm not a breakfast eater, but I love breakfast for supper.

Roast and rice and gravy about once a month or so. Roast beef poboys generally follow and if any is left over, that's vac sealed for a future poboy.

Shrimp salads of some sort a lot in the warm months.

Sometimes, homemade mac and cheese with or without a protein in it is a meal.

I love pork chops and will fix those in different preparations.

I enjoy basic meals as much as fancy pants meals.

I brine a roast a chicken almost every week, so many uses for the leftovers.
Skirt steak with salsa verde....the steak is mostly just a vehicle for the salsa verde, I could put that stuff on a loafer and go to town.
Salmon/shrimp/redfish/trout/whatever under the broiler.
Breakfast for dinner, usually migas or machacado.

Stuff that takes basically no thought or time. Basically under an hour to the table, or 2 hours with very minimal work

Caramelized onion pasta with chicken
Lemon garlic "alfredo" with shrimp
Seared pork chops over collards topped with a cherry sauce
sirloin burrito bowls with cilantro lime rice, homemade salsa and guacamole
Shrimp and cheesy grits
Real Texas chili
Grilled salmon fillets with a simple salad

Or what I'm doing tonight, reverse sear ribeyes with some Chilean sea bass

I really like sauteed or roasted vegetables over pasta with olive oil and parmesan. That with some baked fish or grilled deer meat.

Shrimp and grits often.

Breakfast for supper.

Grilled burgers and hot dogs with tots.

Salads with either bought rotisserie chicken or home roasted chicken.

Red or white beans with ham and andouille or smoked sausage and cornbread.

I make a huge homemade sub sandwich with a lot of meat, cheese, and veggies often.

Roasts and stews, both deer and beef in colder weather.

I like to marinate chicken or pork in Mojo and either grill or sautee and make tacos with the shredded meat, chopped onion and cilantro.

We eat a pretty good variety, so there really is nothing we make enough to get tired of. Lil Dawg, on the other hand is a picky eater. He would eat fried chicken with macaroni and cheese, or pizza every meal if we would let him. We constantly try to get him to eat other things. Sometimes successfully.

I cook a red sauce pretty often, then make either chicken or veal parm or spaghetti with Italian sausage.

We also do a lot of grilled protein plus vegetable, pork chops and green beans, chicken and broccoli, etc...

Sometimes we chop up different vegetables (onions, peppers, potatoes, etc...) and smoked sausage, then put it all in an aluminum foil pocket and throw it in the oven.

ETA: forgot about rice and gravy, we do that with either pork chops or cheap beef fairly often.

Chicken Piccata
Chicken Marsala
Grilled cheese sandwiches using Gruyere cheese and good bread, with Claussen pickles on the side.
Crawfish etouffee the easy way using the LA fish fry mix.
Cajun sausage poboys using Tramonte's cajun sausage cooked in the oven and regular hot dog buns.

I make these at least once a month:

Jambalaya
Italian pork chops with fettucine alfredo
Sausage & peppers with spaghetti
Pork & chicken fried rice

Lately I've been making Chicken tikka massala and Korean bbq stir fly often too. I love trying all the mixes at World Market. Ive made hackbraten (German meatloaf), wienerschniztel, and goulash a few times too- all are really good.
